Enjoying being a gramma

I'm grandma to 2 little girls who I love dearly. I have them both this weekend while their parents (my oldest daughter and her husband) are having some alone time and attending a football game out of town.

I adore the kids and know I'm blessed to have them for the weekend. They're so loving and cuddly and I just enjoy being with them. This is my positive time to share.

Aren't grandchildren wonderful? I have 4 granddaughters and 1 grandson and they are just the best to be around. Having them is like having your own children (as little ones) back for a little while. My grandson reminds me so much of my son when he was little and I have a granddaughter who's personality is so much like what her mama's was (difficult!!) I really treasure each hug that I get from them. Mine all live close by so we get to see them quite a bit. Enjoy your time with them!!!

I missed out on grandparents when I was a child...they passed on before or shortly after I was born. I was able to see what grandparents were like once I started dating my husband. I really missed out on alot!

I hope when the time comes (far off in the distant future...LOL) that I will be a loving, nurturing grandparent.

Diana, I couldn't agree more. My grandbabies remind me SO much of when their Mama was little, and this time around I get to enjoy the fun parts without being the primary caretaker/worrier like I was back then as the Mom. There's nothing that beats rocking my grandbabies to sleep as they cuddle in.

Janet, I'm sorry you missed out on grandparents. I have such wonderful warm memories of my own... especially my maternal ones... learning to sew doll clothes with grandma on a treadle sewing machine; helping them in their garden; etc. My grandpa has been gone close to 30 yrs now and I still think of him every time I smell a certain brand of cigarette burning. My grandma had 40+ grandkids and somehow managed to make each one feel special and loved.

It was on my second birthday that my paternal grandma passed, so I don't remember much about her. I'm told however, that I'm very much like her (in looks and temperment) and had the chance to get to know the woman who had been her best friend. She nearly passed out when she first met me! I was working in a nursing home where she was a patient, and when I walked into her room the first time she thought I WAS my grandma. She said it gave her heart quite a jump to see a long-dead friend walk into the room. LOL She and I became quite close as she taught me about my grandma. She was a dear lady and a real treasure for me to meet.
