Our (almost) Finished House!
I finally took some pictures a few nights ago to show a friend, and just realized I haven't shared any pictures here yet! Keep in mind the house wasn't really clean I also took pictures of our bedroom furniture but the walls aren't painted (by me) yet... hopefully in the spring! And the big bathroom also needs to be painted. It's a really dark green now but I'm going to change that up too in the spring.
The top floor hasn't been touched but we're happy with it how it is for now! Oh yeah, and the first picture is the original kitchen cabinet thingy, which is now in an upstairs bedroom and holds extra blankets, towels, pillows, sheets, etc. It has a flour bin and cutting board! I also took a close-up picture of one of the pictures in the back entry showing the house in its former glory And in the long pictures, the middle frame shows the house as it was in it's decrepid abandoned state before it was moved. Anyways, enough rambling, here are the pictures! http://s263.photobucket.com/albums/i...h/Our%20House/

I just love your house! The floors are absolutely gorgeous. The house has so much character! And so much room!!!
I see the sink beside the sink, but I don't see the other one!

Here are the two pictures where you can see the other one It's tucked behind my laptop! Scott actually turned off the water on this one because the tap is not close enough to the sink, so unless the water is on full force, it dribbles onto the countertop and not into the sink. It was really messy and when the girls were over they'd always want to go there to wash their hands. Now it's out of order indefinitely!

Oh I see it now! I think maybe it was used as a bar or something like that. You are right, you have too many sinks. When you redo the counter tops, then you can definitely take two of them out!

Thank you Janet! We still have to do the two bathrooms (I only took pictures of one) and our bedroom in the spring. The other two rooms we figured we'd leave until we have kids and then we'll paint them And the whole basement is unfinished so we'd like to do something down there in the next 5 years or so.
On the top floor you can see a cord running up to the ceiling, which is where we have a projector screen hanging that comes down in front of the stairway. Eventually, we'll probably move the screen and projector to the basement and I'd like to (I'm dreaming here) build a closet and small bathroom on the top floor (on the one side without a dormer window) to make a master suite But of course, that's all money and time, so we'll see how life plays out! I'm happy with the house as it is now!

I think it is so neat that your house has so many possibilities. You could live in it just like it si right now, or you could change so many things. I think that is so cool.

The house is so beautiful Linds! It has so much character! Every room is interesting, and it looks nice just like it is. Like Gayle said, you have so many possibilities. I love the kitchen....too many sinks, but tons of cabinets! And, the cabinet upstairs is stunning. Is the hot tub off the kitchen? That is so cool! It really is a dream house.
I didn't know it was moved. Where was it? I love that you have the old pictures of it.

I love your house, Lindsey. I grew up in a couple of houses that were big like that!!! I so wish that I had one of them now!! You've got everything looking so nice!! Painting takes awhile to get every room done but with your youth and energy....you'll have them done in no time!!!

Yes, the hot tub is kind of off the kitchen! Behind the kitchen is the breakfast nook, and then there's the addition to the house straight behind. The doors to the deck are there and then the hot tub with a bathroom right beside (which I didn't take pictures of)
It was moved into town in 1997 from farmland. These houses were ordered from the Eaton's catalogue and delivered by train! You would get all the wood, nails, windows, doors, hinges, etc to build the whole place! That is just how the prairie farmers shopped There are not many Eaton's houses still standing so we're living in a peice of history here! We were thinking of looking into having it certified as a historic property but I don't know if we can with the new basement and back addition and other changes. There's a certain amount of original stuff that needs to be in the house, and pretty strict guidelines about what you can change and what you can't. But we know it's an Eaton's house and that's enough for us right now There is a man who wrote a book on Eaton's and other mail-order houses and he is willing to send copies of blueprints and things to people who own these houses. And he conveniently lives only 20 minutes away I would like to contact him and maybe even have him out to see if he can recognize which model this one is.

Congratulations Lindsey! Your house is beautiful and has so much charm and character. I didn't know that you moved from your condo, as I have not been on here much. When did you move? btw how is Layla feeling?

We moved last April. It was kind of on a whim and I felt like I was cheating on my condo lol! I still miss it sometimes. I was just bored and searching online one day in about February and found this house listed and told Scott it was my dream house. I did that a lot, but he would just brush it off... but this time he said "We could probably afford that" So we went to the bank to find out about financing, and we could do it! We got their price down a lot, struck a deal, put my condo up for sale and we got a full price offer on the first day it was listed! So it was kind of like fate But like I said, I still miss the condo sometimes because we put so much work into it, and my family helped out a lot for us and then we just turned around and sold it. It was unexpected. I am in love with our house now though, and I love our new small town and I can't wait to get married and raise a whole bunch of little children there We still work in the city but it's only a 20 minute drive and it's a nice peaceful drive, compared to the same amount of time driving across the city in traffic. Layla is doing really well! She had another setback with a bulging disc in her neck back in November, but we caught it early and she has recovered fully from medication and crate rest. Her crate rest just ended this past Tuesday
