I REALLY need input please !!
I feel funny posting this - but need help from anyone who has had similar problems - I'm going to make it short and sweet - The reason I'm asking here is my plan to go see a dr. just got cancelled - the oxygen machine my husband uses broke and we're having to get a new one ...and man are they expensive
So - is there anyone out there with really bad hormone problems ?? I've done all the Hormone tests 2 times - at $300.00 per visit - - flatlined most all they tested me for (Four out of six) and am so tired of seeing my hair fall out and feeling like crap. I don't have hot flashes or that kind of thing - just wicked tiredness and no motivation to do normal things - It's like my whole life is just going thru the motions. The girls are my joy ....but I know this isn't ME. I'm normally super energetic. Hyper actually - but not anymore I take 2 over the counter pills & 1 prescription. one is BIOTIN 5 mg and the other is an Adrenal Gland Rebuilder - Cytozyme-AD & I'm on Armour Thyroid - None seem to be helping and I've been doing this over 9 months.....is there ANYONE who has similar symptoms and what did you do ?? I just want to feel like ME again - |

O Villette! I feel bad!! I don't know what to tell you about the meds but, have you tried Rogaine for the hair loss? My Mom has an over active thyroid and she has lost alot of hair...not in spots but, it is extremely thin...she has been using Rogaine for a few years now....It won't make hair grow but, it does stop in from falling out...she has noticed a HUGE difference since she started using it...
If this doctor isn't finding anything maybe you should try another doctor.

and I did get thyroid tested - I was borderline but the thought is my thyroid isn't functioning because of the Adrenal Gland problem - it's like a big circle - I spent over 2000 $$ (again no insurance) for the Bio Identical Hormones and never felt a bit better - so am just trying to do this on my own now - the hair problem isn't noticible to others but it sure is to ME. It's so gross - I'm used to seeing dog hair not MY hair on things - but it's coming out by the handfulls .... Highlans - I may Try Iron - I think I have some and at this point I'll try ANYTHING - thank you !!! I may be working full time again soon and am dreading it because of how rotten I feel. |

A couple of the symptoms of thyroid problems is hair falling out and extreme tiredness. I would check with the doctor and see if you could go ahead and get on the meds. Some people have the symptoms for years before the tests confirm that they actually have the problem. Also, V, I know that you're under a lot of stress with your husband and stuff and stress can cause the same symptoms. I hope that you get something figured out because it's awful not having any energy. That's how I was before I found out that I have a low thyroid.

I just don't know what to suggest. I'm not real big on doctoring myself, but then again, I have insurance. I sure hope you get to feeling better soon and that energy level comes back. I also take a daily Vitamin (Centrum Silver) and I can sure tell when I don't take it. I don't want you feeling bad.......can you have a blood test done for iron?

V - I'm leaning towards stress. After Mark died, I was so stressed out that I was tired all the time, my hair was coming out in handfuls and all I wanted to do was sleep. I went to my doctor and he prescribed an anti-depressant and it has helped a lot. I still am low energy, but it's because I'm overweight.
Also, have you considered Medicaid to help with your husband's expenses? All of us pay taxes and I'd rather see it go to help someone like your husband than all of these people running around using it who don't need it and abuse the system. Sometimes the people you get the equipment from can recommend agencies that help with the cost. It wouldn't hurt to ask. |

I know it could be stress or depression.... but I don't feel depressed in the usual sense you know ? ......I've TRIED Lexapro but really didn't feel any feel better. Because I did this post I started back on it yesterday - but my heart tells me it's hormones and that's just so hard to treat. Women are treated so unfairly ....even if I HAD insurance - hormone therapy isn't covered - yet men can get viagra and insurance covers it ??? Something is so wrong with that picture as far as getting help - the system is so slow ... what worries me is by the time he's approved - it'll be too late. We have a few leads on the machine and without insurance have to pay cash up front... but I saved a credit card just for times like this....and thanks you guys for the replies. I'll have to let you know how it goes - trying the Iron and the Lexapro and keeping my fingers crossed. Now if I could just get in the Christmas Spirit ...... I'll say this - all the cards we've received are AWESOME !!!! |

Villette! I hate reading this. I am so sorry you aren't feeling well!
My family went through some bad times about 5 years ago and all of my mom's hair fell out because of the stress! She was put on anti-depressants and things really cleared up for her! Just remember that anti-depressants, including Lexapro, take several weeks to work. So, even though you don't feel the effects immediately, stay on them for a couple of weeks. Sorry I don't know anything about hormones and hormone replacement therapy. All I know is my mom and grandmother use some sort of patch. But they've also had hyterectomies. So I dunno. I'm really just babling here.......... Hope you feel better really soon, girl! (((((hugs)))) to you!
