Diet ~ Exercise ~ Diet ~ Exercise !!!

Did any of you ladies make a new years resolution to diet and exercise? Well, like an idiot I did, LOL. (actually made a ton more than that but we will just stick with this first)

Anyway....I actually began my diet and exercise program on the first and am trying so very hard to be diciplined and focused.

I just thought that if anybody else has made the same "jump" we can check back to this thread weekly to post our progress. I thought maybe being held accountable might help some??

I will go first ... Kinda hard being this is mid week but oh well.

As of to date I've lost ONLY 4 lbs but have exercised about 4 days a week doing a non-impact arobic workout for 20 min's. (can't go beyond 20 yet but trying)

And have not splurged or broken the diet...YET.

Ok ladies...I hope I am not the only one with this same resolution.

My diet today has been "diet tea", oatmeal, fruit, and making stir fry tonight w/ tons of vegi's and chicken.

That is my issue too, the "healthy recipes". I've searched online for a few and found some that seem pretty worth tasting.

A lot for me has to "break old habits of cooking". I LOVE to fry, cover in butter or cream, add tons of cheese, etc. I've done this all my life and it's a complete turn around to learn to "enjoy" lighter less flavorable foods I guess is how I can explain it.

My goal also is 20 lbs. If I hit that then I will shoot for 5 more. But right now, I'll just keep the goal at 20 lbs.

C'mon ladies - share those healthy recipes please.

Yeah!!!! I didn't make a resolution to exercise!!!!! I made a resolution to lose weight!!!! So I'm off the hook with exercise. You had me worried for a little while!!! Whew!!!! Let's not think on this any longer or I might see room for error in this thinking!!!

Now, you wanted recipes. I'm not sure if this is considered diet but it's a recipe that you can really lighten up and it's really good.

1 c. no fat sour cream
1 c. Campbells Healthy Request Chicken soup
Low fat or skim Milk
4-6 boneless Chicken breasts
Herb seasoned bread crumbs

In a 9X13 baking dish, sprayed with non-stick spray, mix the sour cream and the soup, then fill the soup can with milk and add this too. Stir well. Add 4-6 chicken breasts and bake for 50 minutes at 350*. Sprinkle herb seasoned bread crumbs (like you use to make stuffing) on top and bake another 10 minutes. This is really good served with rice.

Good luck!!!

Wow !! your doing great losing 4lbs since Jan 1st is wonderful. I to started my diet and plan on joining the gym by Friday, I have been working and didnt get a chance to get there. I want to lose about eight pds, but I look at it as increments of 5lbs at a time. Have to phycic myself lol I haven't gotten on the scale yet but my clothes fit a little better, I cheat tho I just ate a cookie..Oh well.. Now I will go excersize a little. We should report back to each other once a week, and share our success stories or what we did differently. What do you think girls ? lets get our thinking caps on and give support to whomever wants to lose weight. Any suggestions?

I didn't make a resolution to lose weight, but I did resolve to get healthy. I am a 54 year old and I am diabetic, Have been for 5 years and have been managing very well to keep my sugar in check. I am on meds and don't want to start the needle so it is important for me to stick to this healthy eating thing. I have found my best diet is more of portion control and lots of salads and veggies which I love. I really am not a big meat eater. I keep a stash of candy because I have a tendency to not eat often enough and then suffer from low blood sugar. It is a roller coaster ride much of the time. Smaller portions and just better choices have helped me lose and keep off 35 pounds. I have another 20 to go to be happy with myself. I hope to take it off this year as it gets harder every year.
I love to be outside and active when it is nice, but I seem to just stop in the cold of winter and not do much exercise. So I would love to be a part of this and be accountable, but I guess I will have to buy a scale. I have only weighed in at the doctors because I have to go every 3 months for bloodwork and follow-ups.
Count me in and congrats on your loss and determination. Any loss is a victory!!
HORRAY FOR YOU!! YOU GO GIRL!!!! RAH RAH RAH!!!

Sheryl ~ 4LBS is a LOT ... find something that weighs 4lbs, and carry it around with you for a while, you'll see how heavy it gets.
Healthy recipe's hmm... can't really help much there, but i have been thinking of the Kellog's diet for myself. Might try that... i would like to lose a few lbs, but my downfall is my nighcap I soooo enjoy my little nightcap LOL

Diana, you had it going there until you said "served with rice". Rice especially white rice is a No No for people trying to lose weight. It turns to pure sugar in your blood stream.

I'd suggest eating this dish as it is, or with a whole grain pasta.

To make recipes low fat/lower cal, the key is to use low fat/lower cal ingredients like this recipe does. Also eliminate as much as possible any white flour (can use some white whole wheat), white rice, minimize the fruits.

The white refined carbohydrates become sugar very quickly in your blood stream. Complex carbs from whole grains are much better. Fruits and carrots are high in sugars so should be minimized. Drinking a large glass of orange juice is like eating several oranges. Think about it. That's a lot of sugar.

I've been dieting off and on since having children. I'm about 11 lbs overweight right now and working to get that off. I'm 52 and workout at least 4 to 5 times a week. Indoor cycling (spinning) is the best workout that I've found. More calories burned and cardio exercise for the time invested than treadmill or elypticals. When I can't spin, I do elypticals.

BTW, my father had his first heart attack at 52, so while I'm trying to stay looking good, my real motivation is fear of heart attack. I try to minimize the saturated fats, eat very few eggs. Low cholesterol and no transfats.

My avitar is Paula Dean. I don't look like that.

I love to bake. It's a curse!!! Went nuts over Christmas and gained 3 ~ 4 lbs. I was just 7 to 8 lbs from my goal before.

Need to loose 3stone but cannot even try to diet untill all the christmas chocolate has gone which is my bigest problem chocolate. Should not even buy it so if I eat it quick I will start to diet. Have already dusted of my walking machine ( never have run on it ) so the quicker I eat the quicker I start.

MY problem is that hubby and I are social eaters. We are still so young and we have friends all the time inviting us out to dinner or inviting us over for dinner. It's so hard that way. And I have cravings. I just cannot seem to shake my Mexican food cravings! Yikes! And the LAST thing I want to do when I get off work is think about what to cook for dinner. I hate going to the grocery store after work and I hate cooking. It is so much easier to just grab something. Ugh...

AND then there's the whole exercise deal. I am not a member of a gym and by the time I get off work, it's dark outside so I cannot jog or walk or ride my bike. I am hoping our little lab puppy is going to whip us into shape! He will eventually require lots of exercise.

I need to figure out a way to make quick meals with no fuss for lunch and dinner... for breakfast I have it under control ... i eat http://www.quakeroatmeal.com/qo_mana...htControlPlan/ works awesome... I can actually eat this for breakfast about 830-930 and for lunch have a small salad or something small and be good til about 6pm.... then I can drink some water til about 7pm for dinner... my problem is new meals for lunch... and dinner!

I'm eating the banana bread one.. its yummy and i just a bit of water and voila! Eat it at work everyday!

This is great! It sounds like many of us so far are motivated to get healthier!!

Marilyn - great tips about the sugars. Last night making stir fry I didn't make the white rice knowing that was a no-no. My husband sure missed the rice but he understood why I didn't make it. I like your advise about adding more of the whole grains!

Diana - thanks for the recipe. Anytime subsituting lower cal/fat ingr's can only be positive!

Rebecca - I share your cravings for Mexican. It's my favorite foods. I have made the choice to allow myself one dinner per week of whatever I desire. Most likely it will be mexican!! Since I am choosing this diet as more of a "lifestyle" change then I feel adding a "special meal" once a week will help me stay on track. My feelings is if you take "all the good stuff" away it might just set me up for failure.

I LOVE the fact that many are interested in checking back once a week to post our stories of how the week went, our strengths, new recipes, our set backs, etc.

Mandy - My hubby used to do the "cereal diet", it has always worked for him. In fact, he is kinda doing that now. He substitues one of his meals (normally lunch) for a bowl of cereal/low fat milk. He wanted to do it with dinner also but I felt I couldn't be satisfied w/ a bowl of cereal at dinner. I personally needed something more satisfying, warm, and fullfilling in my belly! LOL

Highlans - freeze that choclate and allow yourself maybe one piece per week. I have heard that the darker the chocolate the healthier it is sorta speak.
I too had to be rid of many "snacks" in the house prior to starting this diet. My downfall is salty snacks, ugh. Once they are outta the house I am fine. It's when they are sitting in the pantry calling out for me is when I become overwhelmed and cheat.

Dcollins - The normal diabetic diet is healthy and should be done by all really. It's a very well balanced diet. My stepdaughter is a diabetic and after reading many books have realized that their food programs are best for all it seems. Glad to hear you are keeping it under control in hopes to not have to use needles.

Gina - thanks for sharing my enthusiasm for the new years healthy life change! I too realize with each other's help this might make it all easier.

Thanks ladies !! I can't wait till next week to see everyone's progress.
