My Father-in-Law

My Father-in-law's health hasn't been very good lately and last night he had a mild stroke. He'd had one a few months ago and the only problem he had from it was he lost some of his sight. Well, last night he lost even more sight, enough that he won't be able to drive the tractor any more. Besides being worried about his Dad my husband is upset because he won't have anyone to help out with the work so I guess, that I'm going to be helping out a lot more this summer than usual. Matter of fact, if it doesn't rain too much I'll be heading out in just a little while.

The doctor let my FIL go home last night because our little hospital is full but he had to go in for some tests first thing this morning. They ended up keeping him in the hospital because he was feeling worse but it might just be stress from worrying. Another doctor will be in tomorrow afternoon to check him over. Please say a prayer for my FIL, Frank. Also say a prayer for my husband because he's going to be really stressed with all of this. And remember me as I try to be a good wife and helper. Thanks so very much. Love ya'll!!!!

Your family will be in my prayers. Maybe they can find some medication to stop these episodes.

Diana, I sure wish there was some way I could help. I can drive darn near anything...use to back semi trailers to the docks at Frito Lay.

I will keep both of your men in prayer and hope that things work out the best for all.

My daughter, Dae Lynn, called me really upset last night. She'd gone to see her Grandpa and he was saying things like she'd probably never see him again and that she needed to go and pick out what fishing pole she'd want to keep. She thought that things were a lot worse then they actually are. He's always been an active man so losing more of his sight is really going to be hard for him, especially if he can't drive anymore. He talked of suicide a while back and I'm not sure what will happen with this. And, yes, he's the kind of man to commit suicide instead of dealing with his health failing. An aunt removed all of the guns from the house.

Oh wow Diana, that's scary. It's not uncommon for depression to follow something like this.

You're right Tink...it really is common. Diana, is there anyway that his losing more of his sight isn't a permanent thing? I know that some people after a stroke, recover some of the things, movement..etc that they lost.

I'm sorry he upset Dae Lynn so much. He is probably just in a state of depression and is only thinking of himself. I hope things get better for him...and your family.

Since after the last stroke his eye sight didn't improve we're all thinking that it probably won't this time either. He can see some. Like to look at me the other night in the ER he could see my body but not my face (Hmmmmm......maybe he's trying to tell me something!! LOL I'll have to tease him about that!!) When he moved his head he could see in some areas and my husband said that when they went to the hospital yesterday that he couldn't tell where they were at. He's such a sweet man and he's a great Dad, annoying sometimes, but still a wonderful Dad. I really hate to see him go through all of this.

I am so sorry Diana. It is so hard to see someone we care about go through things like this. It is especially hard on someone like your FIL who has always been so strong and independent.
