I filled up my car today. I drive a cavalier which has pretty good gas mileage and a pretty small gas tank. It wasn't even empty and it cost me $63. That's pretty insane! This weekend is a long weekend here too so I'm sure gas prices will be hiked even more tomorrow. I need to start walking places. I didn't put plates on my bike today because I would have had to drive to the other side of the city for the one place that is open late hours. It's just not worth the gas!

I filled up today for $3.89 a gallon and was happy to see that.
Sadly I can still remember the gas wars from years ago.. The cost of living has skyrocked and wages do not (at least mine, where I work last October they put a freeze on our wages, will not increase to show cost of living ever) compensate for the rise, yet I feel fortunate to still have a job. When will the Government step up to the plate and say enough is enough?? |

I really believe if our gov't wanted to do something, they would have done it. We might as well face it...things are going to get more tough than they've ever been.
Rich will get richer, poor will get poorer and then civil and race wars will break out. It's not going to get even a little bit better. So much crime between the have's and have nots. Wish there was something that could be done, but it's not to be......JMO

Okay, don't blast me here.....but I'm going to say this, and this comes from a former Republican. This is what we get for electing Republicans. We were bullied into it because the Democratic party stands for gay rights and pro-choice which many of us are opposed to. This caused many people to vote Republican. It is the MORAL thing to do.
However, along with the package comes a preference for rewarding big business and special interests at the general public's expense. Democrats are more for the working people and we "normal" folks lived better under their leadership. We need another party. A moral party that is for the people. I'm an independant at heart now with Democratic leanings who is prolife. We each make our own moral choices whether things are legal or not. People shouldn't use laws to determine right from wrong. Hope I'm making my point. Somethings got to change!!!

Marilyn, I don't know about that I use to be a registered Democratic but over the years I have been voting Republican. In my state the Democratics have ruined everything.. I think if a Democrat gets into office as president we are going to be in big trouble. Just my opinion of course, and I value yours.. You are right about making moral choices. back to gas prices lol I paid $3.55 in another town by me. In my town it varies from $3.75 and up. |

I have to agree with Marilyn and the Republican agenda. I'm a lifelong Democrat and I am very proud of the accomplishments of my party, for example, Social Security, Workers Compensation, the 40 hour week, child labor laws, Medicare, civil rights, banking regulation, collective bargaining, and environmental protection.
Oh and gas here in Austin today was anywhere between 3.65 and 3.82. |

Wow, $3.82 in Austin. Never thought I'd see the day. We spoke to a man today who owns oil wells. Due to the current price of crude, he's making $250,000 per month!! Can you imagine. That kind of income is inconceivable. We are paying so other people can make that kind of profit? No one needs that much money. I'm not for taking it away from him, he invested well and should be rewarded for it, but for oil to be this high. This is absurd!!

You are right, oil is way too high. I wish I knew when it would come down to a reasonable level, but I fear we are looking at the future. I know Europe has been living with these and higher prices for a long time. I don't think they have any sympathy for us.
Part of the problem is that it has happened so quickly - if we had eased up to these prices over a few years, then we'd all be better prepared to adapt with smaller more efficient cars and the like. But no, it's been WHAM - here it is and no one is prepared. |

I'd sure hate to be a car dealer stuck with huge trucks and SUV's on the lot. The RV industry is hurting as well. I saw a dealership this week with some of their bigger pickups parked out at the curb with $12,000 off signs on them.
Fortunately my company pays for the gas in my truck. I gassed up twice this week. That's $155.00 for gas in one week!! People on $400/month car allowances from their companies are really getting a bad deal right now.

Gas here is $3.749 to $3.819. I fill up at the Co-op and I use a member's card so I really don't pay attention to the price of gas. We're just billed for it at the end of the month.
My husband filled the tractor the other day and it was OVER $700 and sometimes he can empty a tank in a day!!! Next time you go to complain think about what the poor farmers are paying for gas! |

I did the same thing with Ricky, Gina. He wants to drive..he pays for it ALL. He bought and paid for his used car with money he's earned. Now that he's working part-time (hopefully more in the summer) he has to pay his insurance, gas and plates.
Gas here was $3.89 this morning. I don't know what we're going to do. I need a smaller car, but I love my van and there is so much room in it. I can haul darn near anything. I need to check again and see how many miles per gallon I'm getting. Been quite some time since I checked and I just don't remember.
