YAY! We are going to Bass Pro tomorrow
LAAAADIES!!! Doesn't that sound just like a monkey barrel of fun! LOL LOL LOL!!!!!
Gary and I are going to San Antonio to Bass Pro. Actually, I really like going to places like Bass Pro or Cabelas. It will be lots of fun spending the day with Gary and he LOVES these places so he is sure to have a great time!!! We're leaving about 7:00AM, eating breakfast at Cracker Barrel and then stopping by Camping World to pick up a book about camping at Corps of Engineers lakes in the U.S. We'll be gone most of the day and Gary is worrying that the babies (Rex & Rowdy) will be home alone too long! Oh Gayle!! We had to go to the Cabelas near Seattle. We've also been to the one in Ft. Worth and Austin. Not to mention every Bass Pro Shop in AND out of the area Mike is going to the deer camp tomorrow to plant a food plot. I swear Gary and Mike must have been separated at birth
Ya'll have fun!!!!

I like looking in the those shops too. Always so many new fangled gadgets!!!
It makes me sad Gayle that Gary is selling his place, but I understand too. Too bad he can't use it as a retreat.

What is Bass Pro? I'm a country girl now, but I'm a city girl at heart, and don't know about this side of life.
Cabelas? Deer camp? Food plot? I can figure it out, but I'm used to shopping for food in bodegas. Gary can only have a 10 year lease, it sounds like. I feel really bad for him.

I hate to hear that Gary is losing his little hunting house. How sad. It's hard to admit that those days are behind us and I really feel for Gary.
My father-in-law used to say that when he got to old to go hunting to just take him duck hunting one final time (in other words "and not bring him back") so Glen always used to ask him at the beginning of duck season "Dad, is this the year?" Of course, it never was but he eventually had to admit that hunting just wasn't for him anymore. I love going to Bass Pro and Cabela's!!! We went to Bass Pro at Branson and I got Glen some really nice shirts! Even if you don't buy anything just looking at the mounted animals are so interesting!!! We've been to Sidney, Nebraska, which has the original Cabela's store! I always love to look!! Judy, Bass Pro and Cabela's both are hunting and fishing stores. They have huge supplies of sports stuff. They're really interesting because they have all kinds of animals mounted in very interesting displays. If you ever are near on it's definitely worth looking at.

Hi Everyone!
We are back and we had a ball! Gary has to use one of those motorized carts, because he just can't do that much walking without using portable oxygen and you can imagine that he doesn't want to do that in BASS PRO, for goodness sakes! Anyway, the motorized cart meant that I walked and walked and walked round and round while he shopped and shopped and shopped!!! He bought a fishing reel and a shirt. I bought a couple of tops on sale for my granddaughter whose birthday is next month. Gary picked out a knife that I will get him for his birthday (I can get it at lots of places, not just Bass Pro). He really had a great time and that made it all worth it. We stopped at Camping World on the way down and found the book we were looking for. The book contains information about and the location of all the Corps of Engineers campgrounds in the U.S. Since Gary is disabled, we can stay there for 1/2 price. The usual price is $16-$20, so $8-$10 for us. That is really a good deal as it is usually around $25-$30 to stay in private campgrounds. The Corps of Engineers campgrounds are usually really very nice and very well maintained. We ate breakfast at Cracker Barrel - YUM! Just the usual scrambled eggs, bacon, grits, and a pancake. Then we ate lunch at Luby's (a cafeteria) - YUM again. I had a salmon patty (my favorite entree at Luby's), creamed cauliflower, and rosemary new potatoes. We got home about 3:00 and we both took a nap!!! We had a great day!

It really is OK, yes it's sad, but Gary just isn't up to hunting much anymore, so from my perspective, it is the best thing that could happen. But of course, to him, it is a huge loss and he is very sad!

It sounds like you had a good time! I think it's so nice that stores have the motorized carts for people who need them. Bass Pro is so big that I bet you were worn out from trying to keep up with Gary on that thing too!!!! I'm glad that you and Gary get out and enjoy yourselves!!

Deer Camp - that's what guys call their hunting leases - or if they go to the mountains to hunt for a week or so and set up tents - they also call that deer camp. It's a guy thing, not just my guy, but hunting guys in general! Food Plot - it's just a plowed up area - not very big - maybe 100 feet square or 50X100 rectangle - where they plant a variety of seeds, e.g., turnips, clover, sweet peas - anything so that the deer will come into the area to eat. They do not shoot them at the food plot, it is just to get them to come onto their lease. The landowner from whom they lease the hunting rights has decided to sell the property so Gary and his two friends won't be able to lease it any longer. It is OK - Gary really isn't up to hunting much any longer - but it is a big psychological loss to him.

I can only spend so long in one of those stores! I usually end up sitting on their camo furniture drinking a diet coke, lol! The last time we went to a big Cabelas, I decided to just let Mike take his time...AND WE WERE THERE 3 1/2 HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!

So glad that you and Gary got to have such a wonderful day!!! Sounds like lots of fun!!! I love to fish, and would probably enjoy hunting, but my dad wasn't into those things, and I married a city guy from Baltimore. His parents owned a dairy in East Texas when I met him, but the country life just isn't for him. He was like a fish out of water in East Texas. Can you imagine, in the middle of high school his parents moved him from Patapsco High in Baltimore to Crockett High in Crockett Texas.
He likes to golf once in a while, but is not a regular at that. Likes Harleys, cars and war history (like WWII and such). I would love to stroll around Bass Pro Shop, Cabellas, or even a feed or hardware store. Since he's a home builder, the closest we get to strolling around in a store like that is Lowe's, or some other building or decorating store, which we both do enjoy. Oh, he's into movies, too, so he can spend a looooong time in Hastings.

Harold and my son are both hunters and the SILs are wannabes. I love to pick on Harold that a couple years ago when he got a new bow, I walked around Bass Pro Shop for a couple of hours waiting for him to have arrows made and the bow fitted. As we were walking out, he realized I hadn't bought anything and bought me a hotdog from a vendor.
