So, what did you do?

What did everyone end up doing for Labor Day weekend?

Ours was pretty quiet. I had a cousin in town and although she didn't stay with me, I saw her for a couple of hours on Sat/Sun/Mon. It was nice!

Then a friend called and asked me to ride out to her cousin's house - about an hour out of town. Her cousin is an old friend of mine, we went to graduate school together back in the early 90's. We've stayed in touch and we see each other occasionally, but not too often. She and her hubby retired a couple years ago and built a new home in the country. I hadn't been out there yet, so it was delightful to get to see her and her new digs!

I watched lots of college football - of course! I was also keeping track of the University of Texas' volleyball team playing a tournament in Hawaii. The University of Hawaii has a great volleyball program and Texas was very lucky to beat them and win the tournament!

My granddaughter spent the night last night. She doesn't do that too often anymore since she is so busy with volleyball and her friends. We went shopping today and had fun together.

I bought Gary a new computer and my son-in-law hooked it up to the new 32 inch TV that we bought for our travel trailer. It is so cool! Gary's eyesight is not very good, so sil made the TV the computer monitor. Gary still has to sit pretty close to it, but he can see it really well. I had a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse - so he can sit in the rocker and operate the computer through the TV. We have to get a table big enough to hold the keyboard and mouse, but not too big to sit in front of the chair. Since Gary is home all day by himself, he thought that being able to play games on the computer or surf the net would be fun. He has never really done anything on the computer, so it will be interesting to see if he gets in to it. My sil has remote access to it from his computer at home, work or by iphone so if Gary gets "stuck" sil can get him "unstuck".

This evening we went to my daughter's for beans, cornbread, and fried potatoes. MMMMM! The new puppy (the funny looking flat faced Brussels Griffon) is doing really well, she's playing more and feeling more comfortable with everything.

When we got home, Gary and I put up our tomato cages. I have two fall tomatoes that are doing really well and growing a lot. My other two plants are not doing well at all. I'm thinking they just don't like the hot weather - maybe they will grow when it gets a bit cooler. It's supposed to be in the low 90's this week, so we are making progress!

I guess that's about it. I need to get off this darned computer and get the house picked up! But I don't want to. BaaaWhaaa!!! (that means "poor me").

Well Gayle, sounds to me like you have had a great weekend. We really didn't do anything. It has rained her yesterday and today. Hubby had gotten the truck washed for our camping trip next week, and we just didn't want to have to do that all over. So we have been home alone this weekend. But that's ok because last weekend, we had my family reunion and brought my granddaughter home with us and my niece for the night. Glad you had a good day Sounds like the weather must have been pretty good there today.

Gayle, sounds like you had a very nice weekend. Ours was pretty quiet. I reported on part of is on another thread. Spent Saturday at Discount Tire, Walmart, and working on my lesson for Sunday morning. This quarter I'm teaching pre-school, 4 & 5 year olds. They are so cute!! We're studying the life of Jesus, starting with the birth of John the Baptist, so this Sunday we discussed babies and how special they are, and how special John's birth was to his parents and to the world. Next Sunday we cover Christ's birth.

So Sunday was spent with church and brushing and bathing the furkids.

Yesterday we took it easy in the morning, slept in a bit and watched "Infocus" on DirectTV. A helicoptor was flying over France with a woman narrating about all the sites they were flying over. It was very interesting. In the afternoon, I hemmed up 4 pair of pants that hubby bought that were too long. We cooked supper for an elderly couple and took it to them, then cooked our own supper and had Melissa over to join us. Garrett was working yesterday and sounds like the fire trucks and EMS were very busy.

So that's about it. This morning, back to work. I have to travel to Bay City area today, and am not looking forward to it. Tomorrow heading to Corpus Christi. Just don't feel like driving a bunch, but it's part of the job and does give me time to think and plan.

It does sound like you had a nice weekend! Hey, report back to me about how it looks around Bay City. Gary has a house on the gulf a few miles south of Bay City. He and 2 other men own it and use it for fishing in the gulf. Gary has not been down there yet this year, as he just hasn't felt like it. We need to get down there.

I worked Saturday. The money is good and always needed!!

Afterwards went to a outdoor party and got to spend time with friends I haven't seen in a long time. Early night, home by 10:00 so I could get up early Sunday morning to go kayaking. Kayaking was nice and relaxing till the gunshots started booming!! Some idiot was literally firing over the river! We got our whistles out and started blowing like crazy. We came upon the shooters. They told us they quit shooting when they heard our whistles. What if we didn't have our whistles?? They said they were having fun and shooting on private property, so whats the problem.. then they got smart when we told them it was against the law to shoot over the river, and told us they had more ammo so we better be nice!! Needless to say they are being turned into the authorities. My one friend who was with us works at the Courthouse, so she is going speak to her friends at the Courthouse about it. She knows a lot of the County and State Police. I am sure those idiots will be getting a visit.

Yesterday I spent the day home doing a few things. Mainly cleaning!!
Today I am going to the flea market with Mom and then to the mall shopping. I took a vacation day since I worked Saturday.

Tomorrow back to work..

It sounds like everyone had a pretty full weekend. It ended up that we did too but it was totally spontaneous!!

Friday evening, since it had rained my dear sweet hubby took me out to eat at one of my favorite restaurants and to the movies. We watched "The Time Traveler's Wife". It was really good!

Saturday my granddaugher, Daya, had her 10th birthday party at my BIL's pond. He has a nice pond with a dock, diving boards, and a picnic area. It was hard to believe but the kids swam. The water here has really turned chilly with the cooler weather we've been having. It ended up that some of our close friends were there and we invited them to the house. They had some things to do so they picked up a pizza when they were done and came out. We spent an enjoyable evening visiting with them.

Then on Sunday we have church. It's funny, Marilyn, because the class you teach is about the same age that I teach. Then I helped Amy in children's church! After church we ran home and ate a sandwich then Feyn's family and Amy and her girls and us went to Wichita. I was hoping to go to the zoo but since it was close to Karley and Kiley's birthday we went to the mall and shopped. Afterwards we went and ate at Kobe's. It's the Japanese steak house where they cook in front of you. We talked about playing miniature golf but didn't get there in time, nor were there any good movies starting at the time we were at the theater so we ended up going to Target and shopping. We had a fun day. It's always nice to have part of the family together. (Dae Lynn and her family had gone camping and Jaci was with......guess who?........Nate!!!!)

On Monday I painted!!! Yay!!!! The color I'm doing is sooo dark that it's taking several coats and then the trim work is equally as hard. I've used so much paint that I'm going to have to go and get another gallon. I can finish the wall that I'm working on but I'm not going to have enough to do the other stuff that I have planned. It's looking so nice though!!

Oh, I almost forgot to add that Jaci had volleyball practice on Monday and she went in and quit. I'll post this on her volleyball thread if you want to read more. It was very upsetting for both of us.

My weekend was extremely quiet. I did a lot of nothing!

Saturday, we made a day trip to my son's house for Sarah's second birthday cake. Jeff is setting up a couple spots on his 80 acres for deer hunting, so Harold took his deer feeder. Of course, we had to stop for deer corn and hunting license. Jeff got a gun safe, so we took his rifles and my Dad's rifles to him.

Sunday, we went out to get a new battery for my car and some hunting stuff at Academy. Harold needs a new hunting stand. Hurricane Ike dropped a tree on his. I'll probably surprise him with one in a couple of weeks.

Monday, we vegetated in front of the TV!

Back to work today!

Sounds like most of you were busy with one thing or another and others got a chance to relax.

Friday evening we loaded everything up in the van and truck that we would need at the rental house on Saturday. Then of course on Saturday we worked on the house. Rick hung a couple new doors on the bedrooms, painted some closet doors and a few other things. Ricky trimmed branches off the tree that were getting close to the house, mowed the yard and used the weed eater. I...well...I cleaned the basement. It was a horrible dirty mess with cob webs everywhere. They sure didn't leave it in very good shape. I also trimmed all the bushes around the house and raked it all up.

Sunday we went back to the house. Rick worked upstairs and Ricky and I painted the basement with this stuff called Kilz. We almost had a complete coat on when we ended up getting higher than a kite from the fumes and had to go outside into the fresh air. Rick ended up finishing what little was left. Ricky also was moving some cement blocks that they had in the basement for some reason and ended up hitting his head. It bled a bit and he ended up with a pretty nice goose egg. He was okay, but neither one of us were worth a hoot so we came home. Rick stayed and finished up some odds and ends.

We were going to go back on Monday, but I was still so sore and not in the mood so Rick went in alone. He mostly just loaded what we had left there and brought it all home. He did meet with a realtor to get his thoughts on what we should do. He's a good friend and know the business well. Now we just have to weigh our options and do what feels right for us.

Today.....back to hauling the "little darlings" around. Then took Mom to Wal Mart and did some other errands with her. Now...here I am on the computer waiting to go back and pick up the kids. I'm so glad this is Tuesday and will be a short week till the weekend....lol.

Gayle, Bay City area has been really dry. Matagorda on the other hand got some rain a few weeks ago had greened up quite a bit. Yesterday when I was there, I didn't go all the way to Bay City. I traveled north on 521 to 60 and turned south toward Matagorda. I call on the LyondellBasell plant that is between Wadsworth and Matagorda. Sometimes I take people to lunch in Bay City, but didn't yesterday. Everything looked really green!!! Some rain had come through on Friday and it was amazing how quickly the grass and trees had greened up. The grass beside the road actually could use a mowing.

The only thing the guys might want to check is for roof leaks. It started raining here with a storm on Friday evening and it rained off and on all day yesterday and some again last night. Our house has developed a roof leak. We just discovered it last night so haven't had a chance to check it our. Not sure if it's because the roof and everything had dried out so much or what. Rex thinks it's a copper pan we have in a valley on the roof. A solder joint may have broken or something. He will probably get up there today and check it out. Melissa was over Monday evening with her big English Bulldog Mack, and I was blaming him for peeing on the dog bed in the laundry room. There was way too much liquid to have been a yorkie, and when I threw the dog bed in the washer and mopped and cleaned it all up, it came right back in a little bit. We started looking for where it is coming from and think it's the copper pan.

We got about 3" of rain over a 3 day period and the grass is really appreciating it.

Marilyn, I hope the leak isn't too bad and that Rex can get it repaired today.

We only had 1/2 inch of rain over the weekend, but it is amazing at what that little bit did to green things up!

Sorry about the roof leak Marilyn. Yes, Gary does need to go down to fish camp and see how things are doing.

I'm glad that you got some rain, Marilyn, but sorry that you have a leak. We used to have one in our bathroom and had a really hard time getting it stopped. I still have a faint spot on the ceiling from it. I hope that it's an easy fix.

I hope the roof leak is fixed Marilyn. It's funny - I always blame the dogs whenever there is water on the floor! I never take into account that I might have splashed or spilled it myself.

I had the roof leak twice this winter, so I called our condo manager. It's not the roof, as it turned out. I have a skylight, and no gutters on my roof. When the snow gets too heavy up there, it will squeeze through the sealant around the skylight, and leak onto the floor. No matter how much it rains though, it never leaks through. The manager, Wendy, told me that I am responsible for getting somebody to clear the roof of snow. I didn't. It never leaked after the first 2 times.

I am finding out that they are responsible for almost nothing, even though this is a condo!!! It also seems that it depends on who you are. Nice, big Christmas gifts are sooo important! I also never complain about any of the workers. Last Monday, Dave, our garbage collector actually rang my bell because I had no garbage out! I had forgotten anbout Monday's pick up. You do get many more bees wityh honey
