Big Fire in my city!!
I know, the Positive Forum is a really weird place for something with that title, but let me explain.
I've been dating my boyfriend since August, the 27th will mark our 8th month together, and as you all know he is a firefighter. This evening an old abandoned hospital caught fire and I convinced him to drive me over there to check it out. He'd been at work and was still in his uniform so I knew we'd have a bit more leeway than other spectators since they'd know he's with the FD. We even got to talk to some of the firefighters on scene and find out more than the general public, which I LOVE being in the Know on things like that. Since we met I've been extremely nervous about him going to fires and wouldn't be able to sleep if I knew he was at one. So I really needed tonight. We stood off away but in view of the fire and I had him explain everything from what was going on with the fire to the protocols the firefighters were following to the kinds of trucks out there and their various functions. It's one thing to have him explain things to me when we're together, and a completely different thing to have him explain things when we're actually watching a fire, it let me ask questions I wouldn't normally think of. The fire went from 20ft flames above the roof to pretty much out when we left. And now that I've actually seen with my own eyes the kind of stuff he does I'm less nervous about him doing it. I'll never stop being nervous, but at least it won't be as bad from here on out. I just wanted to share.

wow Lissa. I would have never thought of doing that. It was a very good idea. I'm so glad you got the chance to have a deeper understanding of what he does.

Glad you were able to learn more about his job. I think knowledge is power so if it helps you not be quite as tense when he's on the job....that's great.

Wow, that's quite a fire! I'm so glad that you now have a little more peace and understanding about his job! With a job like that, it's essential, else you'd worry yourself day and night! (I would!) But imagine all the good that's done and all the lives saved. What a noble job!

Wow Lissa, I'm glad you were able to learn more about his job so that you will be less nervous when he's gone. That was a very good idea!

I'm glad that you were able to get some peace of mind from watching the fire with your BF. It's easy to be worried when we don't understand exactly what's going on. Hopefully your worries will be put to rest now. We just have to leave the care of our loved ones in God's hands and sometimes that's hard to do.

That's great! I mean, that you got to watch it burn with him safely at your side. Like you, my prince is a firefighter, and I get so nervous about him at work. They do some scary stuff but it helps ease your nervousness if you understand everything.

Have you seen any of the fires your guy goes to? I had no clue it would be such a relief to have him explain all the stuff they do to me.
