Finger Nails
Throughout my life I've always had very strong nails. Always tried to keep them nice without having them too long. I like doing crafts, sewing, yard work..etc. and don't like them in the way, but don't want them stubby either.
I've noticed in the last year that (especially on my left hand), that a couple of my nail grow out and downward. Does anyone know if that is some kind of vitamin deficiency? I mentioned it to my Dr. but he didn't seem too concerned. |

I wish I had some suggestions for you. I've always had difficulty growing out my nails. I envy all the ladies who can grow natural pretty strong nails.

Mine are really hard. Sometimes when I break one, it actually hurts my finger. I've not done anything to make them strong except my family drinks a lot of milk. That would be the only thing I can think of. But now, if I don't keep them trimmed shorter, they look horrible with the downward growth.

Mine do that!! It's the nails on the middle finger on each hand. I can't let the nails grow too long or they start their gravitational "pull" downwards. Doctor doesn't know why mine do that either. So, I just keep 'em all cut short.

that's strange! I've always had nails until about 4 years ago. now, I can't stand them...they get in my way. I'm trimming my nails every couple of days.

All of my nails are TERRIBLE! I have to keep them REALLY REALLY short ALL the time. I cannot even THINK about growing them out. And I've tried everything! Oh well. I don't mind having short nails.

My nails are VERY very soft, they actually bend as easy as paper, they can't grow long, because they too thin.

Yes Yes it's the middle finger on both my hands too, but more so on the left. I wonder why that is? |

For those with weak nails, my mom always told me to eat lots of Jello. The gelatin actually makes your nails stronger. Don't know if this is true but it can't hurt. Who doesn't love Jello? As for your nails curving downward, if your doc says there isn't anything wrong, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

It's a blurry picture, but as you can sorta see, I keep them shorter and they still tend to grow downward even at this length.
Hope the picture comes through.

Thanks for the visual aid Janet. I have a nail like that on my left hand. It is my ring fingernail. I lost it as a child because I had a car door slammed on my finger. Once the new nail grew in, it has always looked different from the rest of my nail. I also have lots of ridges on my nails. Like little dents and ripples. Anyone know why that happens?

I only have the ripples on my thumbs. And the picture was of the middle finger on my left hand. If I let them grow any longer (which I don't really like) they really start the downward growth.
