Is My Fate to Be the Same as Yours?

Is my fate to be the same as yours was,
to die from cancer in the prime of life?
I only want to know the truth because
I don't want to bequeath my son such strife.
Memories into my mind are winging-
I recall story telling at your knee.
I hear the silver sound of your singing;
sweet resonance that brings delight to me.
Because of you, I know how to mother,
each day my son hears joyful melodies.
Writing clever poems is another
way I invoke beloved memories.
To share your fate may be how I'll perish.
You, passed down in me, my son will cherish.
