Going Fishing and Now it Gets COLD!!

Okay, most of the time, I'm telling you how warm it is here when you are cold where you are. Well this Saturday, Melissa will be here and it looks like our other daughter Karen will be off and can come, so I've planned a fishing trip for us and a friend, Julia, who is having a baby in August. Everyone is really excited and looking forward to it. They've been bugging me to do this. I had to hire a guide because we don't have or want to own a boat. We wanted to do this before the wedding, before the baby and Karen works for a bank and seldom gets a Saturday off. Perfect opportunity!!

Now the hitch, the weather has turned cold. They are predicting in the 40's Saturday morning with a high of 69. We should leave the dock at 7 a.m. Now I'm afraid it will be too cold. Julia is from Russia and has had enough cold in her life. She likes it warm, and I'm afaid out on the water, if it's a little windy, it will be too cold for all of us. I'm calling everyone today to see what they all think. The cold here is different than at higher elevations. It's not cold often, but when it is, it's a damp cold that can penetrate. Bummer!!

what a shame! It sounds like a good time. The weather report changes so often...is there a chance you can wait a day or two and see if they forecast warmer temps?

well fishing in the cold would not be fun! Do you have an alternative plan?

I can't believe after all of your wonderful warm weather that when you pick a day to do something outside it turns cold. That's too bad. Maybe you could go to an aquarium or something instead. At least it still has to do with fish!!!

When we went to South Padre years ago we came home by way of Corpus Christi and they have a really neat aquarium there. I don't know how far it is from you but it might be an option. We also saw the Lexington.

If it's too cold, there is surely something you all can do together, right?

And what 'baby?' Did I miss something?

There are always things we can do. It's just that this group has never been fishing on the bay and it's something they really wanted to do. The timing is great if the weather will cooperate. I keep checking and the current forecast for Saturday is low 47, high 65. It's 62 outside right now and I went out and stood in the parking lot earlier. It's not too bad in the sun, but out on the water with wet hands, I just don't know. Melissa wants to go anyway, but haven't polled the others yet.

Diana, we've been to the aquarium in Corpus several times and have toured the Lady Lex. It's also a popular school field trip destination, and a great outing, but this group has been there/done that. Besides we've been to the National Aquarium in Baltimore a couple of times, and next to that the Texas Aquarium is not so impressive.

Janet, the pregnant one is a very dear friend, Julia who is 38 and is experiencing a surprise pregnancy. She's due in August. Her only child, a son, is almost Ricky's age. She finds out in about 16 days whether it's a girl or boy. I'm hoping for a girl. She just want's healthy. She's from Russia, has been in the US about 3 years, and is concerned about her health due to not so good past medical care and is worried that her baby could have some problems as a result. I tease her that she's just a worry wart. She's such a sweet & amazing person. She graduated from music school in Russia and is an accomplished artist in paint (oils and acrylic) and pastels. BTW, she's a readhead with lots of freckles. She married a friend that I grew up with. They met online.

I say suck it up, wear a warm jacket, and go anyway! You never know when you'll get another opportunity for the four of you to all get together. So wear a warm coat and have a great time! But then again, here, if we let the weather predict what we did, we'd never get anything done!

How wonderful for your friend to be expecting a baby...even if it is a surprise..sounds more like a blessing to me. She sounds great.

School, work, and wedding planning keeps me busy most of the time, I don't know how I find time to sleep
