You all are so great at remembering dates. All I know is I've been married 8 years. I can't remember yesterday let alone the year. LOL

I only remember mine because it was a holiday. When we met, I was three sheets to the wind and I can't remember what we talked about. I do remember making out with him later that night. I was thinking man, I am seeing fireworks. I was so drunk that I forgot it was Independence Day!

I met Greg through mutual friends when I was visiting them with a different boyfriend in Oct of 1981. He told them when we left that "That's the woman I want. I'm going to marry her." They about laughed him out of the place, saying that I would NEVER give up the guy I was with for anyone. (We had been childhood sweethearts and rediscovered each other after my divorce.)
Greg was NOT a womanizer... had really only had ONE girlfriend before me and was 34 years old! So it was a shock to our friends and ME when I moved in with him 5 months later! We lived together until Aug of 1985 when we married. He proposed 3 times before I finally caved in. I was extremely gunshy after my 1st marriage and really wasn't eager to repeat that.

Okay, Y'all, top this......
Met June 1973, I was dating his best friend (not going steady) Started dating July 1973 Engaged August 14, 1973 Married December 22, 1973 Married 32 years. He was from Baltimore, MD, had been in Texas about 2 years, and was a democrat, agnostic, pro-choice. I was a South Texas farm girl, republican, very conservative Christian, pro-life. We met during summer term at college, and I loved his accent. Opposites do attract. By the way, he's a Christian, now, and we are both independents, we agree on most other issues also, with time and experience, you learn there are shades of gray. Oh, and he's been here so long now, he has a Texas accent.

By the way, Janet, this comment is for you. My guy is color blind, so you should have seen some of his color combinations when he picked me up for dates at the dorm. He had no idea his pants were lime green. He thought they were brown. Hey it was the early '70's the colors were outrageous anyway.

My bf and I met early August 2000. We started dating a couple weeks later. Six years later, we are still together, living together, but he hasn't proposed yet. Maybe this year.

Our story is so interesting...
My husband and I knew each other when we were both in high school, but we weren't really close friends or anything. He graduated (he was two years older than me) and moved to Pittsburgh, PA, eight hours away. We started talking one day on IM and hit it off REALLY well. We started talking on the phone every night, for several hours at a time. In no time at all, we had both developed feelings for each other, but were scared to death to tell the other person in case it would in some way ruin our amazing friendship. We were SO intimate with each other over the next year. He knew more about me than my closest friends and he says I knew more about him than any friend he had ever had as well. We just had the best, most in depth, soul-searching and fun conversations and we were never bored with each other. Ever. He would play guitar and sing songs to me over the phone. lol. I thought he was the cutest thing EVER. Well, that summer, he convinced me to work at a summer camp with him and I did. It was the first time since we had gotten close that we would be able to see each other. Our first hug was SO special!! I was scared to actually be physically together, but it was immediately like we had lived in the same state and had a normal friendship all along. Amazingly, we got even closer! At this point, it was very difficult to hide our feelings and on July 23, nearing the end of camp, he kissed me unexpectedly!! I was shocked! I mean, we were still "just friends", right?? That's what we had been telling everyone and even ourselves. But that one kissed changed everything. We were finally able to be completely open about our feelings and it was SUCH a relief to learn that he felt the same way. Apparently, everyone except for us thought it was completely obvious that we were in love. When I told my mom we were dating she said "I know." When I told my sister, she said, "It's about time!" lol. After camp he moved to Louisiana. Six months later we were engaged (on New Year's Eve during my first trip to PA when I met his family). Afterwards, he moved back to PA. Six months later, on July 10, 2004, we were married at the camp where we had our first kiss. And he sang to me at our wedding. It was the most romantic thing EVER.
And three years later, we couldn't be happier!

Met my hubby through mutual friends in August of '84 and we were just friends. Our first "date" was on January 11, 1985 but it was more just our first time out without being around a group of our friends! We officially became a couple in March of '85, engaged in July '85, and married on January 11, 1986 - we will celebrate 21 years of marriage next year.

Met 9/8/01 - (we were both very drunk & he asked for my number without writing it down. I was shocked that he remembered it & called)
First Date 9/13/01 (two days after 9/11, so I'll never forget) Proposed Aug 04 - (said no) Engaged 3/3/05....... No date set for wedding yet I've never been married, whereas he was married for just over a year a loooong time ago (he's older). We both owned our own houses when we met & almost instantly stayed every night together, alternating between his house & mine. Eventually, it was only his. Our relationship was great, just a few little things & one big thing.....Lack of Committment!! I had had enough & put my house on the market w/out telling him the 'why' which he later discovered that I was planning on 'moving on'. He dropped many a tear & then a knee & proposed. I said no, because it was not meant as an altimatum(sp?) & didn't want a proposal like that. But I wasn't moving out of state until my house sold. He was a changed man. He proposed again in March & I said yes. Since then, we have built a new home together & the focus has been off of a wedding. It's still important to me, but somehow I've become content with things the way they are. He's a great guy & treats me wonderfully. |

Of course we have had our ups and downs like everyone but you have to work through them. We have been married for 12 years. Most of our family never thought we would ever make it.
