My spider is in a jar with a tight fitting lid and no holes. Nothing can get in or out otherwise I wouldn't have her in my house! When it was just the one spider I could open and close the lid when she was in the bottom of the jar but with the babies in there I can't do that because they'll escape so right now they're not getting anything to eat. They have been really, really interesting to watch. I've learned so much about spiders.

Spiders don't bother me unless they are crawling on me. That freaks me out!!! We have huge spiders here in the spring time that make large webs overnight. The spider itself is black and yellow and sits in the middle of the web waiting of a bug to light. We call them "writing spiders" because they make a heavy zigzag pattern in their web usually near the center, like it's their signature or something. They will stay for several days if their web is not disturbed, and they catch lots of bugs. We leave them alone unless they decide to make a web over the front door or something. I've gone to leave in the morning and there was a spider web across my path.

Melissa had one on the canopy of the RV she was living in and she enjoyed her pet until someone did her a favor and removed the web while she was in class one day. They, too, are interesting to watch.

May have to catch me a Black Widow, Diana, but hubby would probably have a fit!!

O my, the same thing happened to me as a child. I don't know if it was in the corn field, but probably was. We had corn in front of our house most years, and yes, the spiders did make their webs in the corn.

Banana spiders may be their name. I'm not sure. Writing spiders is just what we called them because they write in their web. So cool that we share that experience.

EEKKK! We shared a scary experience, i'm not sure if that is there name, they have two yellow marks on both sides of there bodies, that look like banana's that's why we called them that, i still remember that day, my brother was tormenting me like he always did chasing me, and i ran right into it. and you are also right they sit right in the middle of there web, and he smacked right in the middle of my face.. YUk...... scared the crap out of me.. just to feel that web on my face and the spider on my nose.... YUK.....

I use to till I found out that what they were spraying didn't leave any kind of a residue. So then we started to spray the house ourselves. So far so good!

As far as I am concerned the only kind of good spider is a DEAD spider! There isn't a thing that I want to learn from them! LOL

I have a friend who swears if you put a few, I think they are called hedge apples, in your basement your home will be spider free.

They are big green gnarly looking things.

Dobie, I'm with you girl!! I am so afraid of all birds. I remember still being in a crib and dreaming there were chickens on my crib. Mom remembers it too. I've always been afraid of them, probably always will.
