Spiders don't bother me unless they are crawling on me. That freaks me out!!! We have huge spiders here in the spring time that make large webs overnight. The spider itself is black and yellow and sits in the middle of the web waiting of a bug to light. We call them "writing spiders" because they make a heavy zigzag pattern in their web usually near the center, like it's their signature or something. They will stay for several days if their web is not disturbed, and they catch lots of bugs. We leave them alone unless they decide to make a web over the front door or something. I've gone to leave in the morning and there was a spider web across my path.
Melissa had one on the canopy of the RV she was living in and she enjoyed her pet until someone did her a favor and removed the web while she was in class one day. They, too, are interesting to watch. May have to catch me a Black Widow, Diana, but hubby would probably have a fit!!

Banana spiders may be their name. I'm not sure. Writing spiders is just what we called them because they write in their web. So cool that we share that experience.

They will get your attention. In my case, it wasn't exactly on my nose. I was freaking out trying to find it with their strong sticky web everywhere. Finally flung it on the ground. Maybe that is why I'm not scared of spiders, but do freak out when one gets on me. The thought of them crawling on me is just totally creeps me out!!!!
I get the heeby jeebies just thinking about it.

We call them Garden spiders. Here's a picture of one with the zigzag pattern on it's web. They're pretty harmless and do a great job of eating bugs.
http://search.msn.com/images/results...den-spider.jpg Shada, I've heard of putting hedge apples around to keep out spiders. We've got plenty of them around so I should put some in the basement. Thanks for the reminder!

We put up a few bat houses in our back yard, hoping that takes care of any spiders back there.
