Scary sunday morning

On the way to pick up my grandpa from Church, I saw my neighbors dog get hit by a car. She bolted out in front of it & the car tried to stop, but it was too late. the car clipped the dog's back hip & spun her around. After she caught her berrings she took off running behind her house. I told my DH we had to stop. I ran around the house calling her name, but couldn't find her. So I decided I was just going to tell the owner at the very least. By the time I got back to the front of the house he had come out. I said I saw Paige get hit by a car. He was like where is she. I said I don't know she ran aound the back of the house. So he & I took off looking for her. My husband hollered at me that she was around the front of the house. The kid had come out & she went to him. When i walked up she barked & growled at me, which is very unlike her. She was either in some kind of pain or just very scared & confused. I talked to the guy a bit longer & told him where she got hit & he felt her & thought she seemed alright, but to me she was acting like something wasn't quite right, but she wasn't limping or anything. At the very least if she starts to limp or something later at least he'll have an idea what happened.

Backstory: I've only met Paige a few times, they recently moved in. Paige is a Chocalate German Shorthaired pointer. She makes me a little nervous when she's around Logan (my yorkie), but in general she's a nice dog. The people seem to care about her, but according to the people that live closer to them they never fence her in & she just wanders around the neighborhood. I guess she's already killed a few cats. We live far enough away from them that she never comes down into our yard or anything, but she has come across the street to see Logan when we're out walking. I'm a little surprised she hasn't been hit before, Hopefully they will learn from this & keep a better eye on her.

How awful to see that! I'm so glad you stopped and alerted the owner. Hopefully, she'll be okay.

Did the person stop who hit the dog?

That was nice of you to alert the owner, maybe they should have her checked anyway. You never know about internal bleeding and whatnot.

They stopped at the stop sign & looked back, but then kept on going. They saw i had stopped to help the dog.

That's what I thought. Had it been my dog, I would of taken him in just in case. She was acting like she was either scared or in pain.

That makes me so mad, i can't believe they didn't even stop! I would have wrote down the lisc. plate number! and the owners, i can't believe they didn't even take the dog to the vets for a check up.. poor baby!!!

Maybe they did take her in later. I did all I could do so I went on my way. She may of started acting strange or they might have wanted to wait until today if possible so has not to pay emergency costs.

I know what you mean about the emergency cost, but maybe they can take her to there vet today.... last time i took my dog it was very expensive...

That was very nice of you to stop and inform the owners. They wouldn't have known to keep an eye on their dog otherwise.

You're one of very few heros! Most people don't take the time out of their 'busy' schedules. You did a good thing by stopping.

Just saw this and I hope Paige is ok. Does your town have leash laws? I would report them....they should not be letting a dog wander around by itself. Especially since she has killed a couple of cats! I'm concerned for little Logan

Our town does have leash laws. We had a french bulldog in our condos that kept going after other people dogs & they finally moved back to st. louis because they were being sued. The police had talked to them at least 3 times about putting it on a leash, but i don't know if they were ever fined. Paige doesn't ever bother us because we're a few blocks away from them. Plus Logan is never outside alone, but i should mention it to a lady i know that has a 5 lb yorkie (cricket) & a new yorkie puppy (tango). They only live half a block away & do leave there dogs outside unattended occasionally. The people with cricket used to live by these people where they lived before & know all about Paige's wandering so they might have possibly reported them. I just worry about Paige's safety more than anything. With this new underground fencing it's really not that hard to keep a dog contained.

P.S. Logan isn't too aweful little; he's 12.5 lbs, but i guess he's still little compared to Paige.
