Feeling Liberated!

With yesterday being my final day at my old job, I couldn't have timed things any better. It was announced that the hourly quotas were being raised, along with additional work that you get NO credit for and that those who can't meet quota risk losing their positions! There were people fuming, in tears, and feeling totally threatened yet trapped by their need for that paycheck. I was able to comfort myself in the fact that I was escaping, yet my heart ached for friends who are still there.

Today, knowing I'm not going back there, I feel like a weight has been lifted. If I can just say I don't HATE my new job I'll be ahead of the game by switching. I am seriously less stressed about starting the new job than I was when I had to keep going to my old one. That's just plain sad. I wish I could have dragged all my friends out of there with me, but at least I feel liberated and others said if I can leave, it gives them hope that they will soon too.

Just had to share my JOY with others. thanks for reading!

That's great that you were able to get out and surely sounds like in the nik of time!! It is sad about your friends but they have to do things for themselves, you can only do so much by being an emotional support for them. Congrats to you!

Congratulations Tink! How exciting to be starting a new job. It's sad for your co-workers at the old place, but maybe some of them will be motivated to start looking at their options.

Diana, I was a medicare claims processor. I worked on claims that were submitted with problems. The quota given on Friday was to correct 50 or more claims per hour, which means you get about one minute to bring up the claim, find the problem, correct it and reenter the claim so it can be paid. Yes, time is of the essense when paying these claims, but the computers, several different programs and the processors all have to be at peak performance in order to accomplish this, and unfortunately, if any one aspect is a bit off, it all falls behind.

The work is done in cubicles, so you're isolated all day. They have so much work to accomplish that they've made 8 hours overtime per week mandatory so people are tired and burning out. It's just a tough job with a lot of challenges and intense demands.
