Janet, thanks, your recollections made me remember even more!

1. All the girls had ugly gym uniforms? Mine was 2-pieces, but very conservative.

3. Nearly everyone's Mom was home when kids got home from school? My Mom worked and I remember feeling different because most others didn't.

4. Nobody owned a purebred dog? My Dad would only let us have hunting dogs.

5. When a quarter was a decent allowance? I remember getting $1/week.

6. You'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny? If it's money, I'm diving for it.

10. Laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box? Bags of flour had silverware.

13. When a 57 Chevy was everyone's dream car...to cruise, peel out, lay rubber or watch submarine races, and people went steady? I remember getting a boy's class ring or FFA pin to show that you were going steady.

15. Lying on your back in the grass with your friends and saying things like, “That cloud looks like a...”? Still one of my favorite things to do.

38. Telephone numbers with a word prefix...(Raymond 4-601) Ours was Melrose 4-5417. Later, it was ME4-5417. Then, 318-634-5417, until about a few months ago when my Mom died. My parents had that same phone number for almost 60 years.

46. Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, 'Do Over!'? We should change the "escape" key to the "do over" key on the PC.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. To bad kids today don't have a clue as to what they could do if they get bored. I don't remember ever being bored.

I never got bored either. I was never tired like the kids are now. As soon as I could, I was outside playing. Punchball was big in Brooklyn. Baseball was too hard because you had to stop when a car came down the street. Losing at war meant you got nuggies. The ice cream man, Joe, came down the street and my mother would throw 10 or 15 cents out of the window in a paper bag when I yelled up to her. We lived on the 6th floor too. Walking with your friends was a fun activity. I am so glad I have those days to remember. Childhood was so good.

I don't remember quite a few of them like Nellie Bell. I don't remember watching Roy Rogers and Dale Evans very much. I knew who they were of course but I don't remember the details. Here's a few that brought back memories.

1. All the girls had ugly gym uniforms?
We had UGLY gym uniforms!!! They were gold in color and made of a funny material and went down to our knees! I hated them!!!!

4. Nobody owned a purebred dog? We did have a dashund and a pekineese but mostly we had mutts!!

14. No one ever asked where the car keys were because they were always in the car, in the ignition, and the doors were never locked? They still are!!!

16. Playing baseball with no adults to help kids with the rules of the game? We had a lot of kids in our neighborhood to play games with. I remember playing kickball and home plate and second base were tar spots on the street. 1st base was a mailbox and third base was a fence post!!!

29. Eating Kool-Aid powder with sugar. We also ate lemons cut in two with a bowl of sugar!! YUM!!

30. Candy cigarettes Wasn't allowed!!

33. Coffee shops with tableside jukeboxes, We had the Cozy Cafe that had these!!

34. Blackjack, Clove and Teaberry chewing gum. You can still get these kinds of gum on e-Bay!!

38. Telephone numbers with a word prefix...(Raymond 4-601) Yep!! Our number was Drake 8-3835!!!

40. Peashooters I remember those.....OUCH!!! I also remember that my brother would take a dart gun and put sharpened pencils in them to shoot at me!! Mom had the top of a closet with his taken away toys in it!!! There's a reason now that dart guns have that little bump inside of them to prevent other things from going inside of them!!! You can probably thank my brother for that!!!

This was fun and brought back a lot of memories!! Thanks Sandy!!!
