				Family tradition

Friday evening my daughter (32 years old) asked if I would come over and help her make noodles for Thanksgiving dinner. My mom usually makes them but my daughter wanted to learn how so she asked me to help her. We had such a good time and hopefully, they will taste really good on Thursday!

I remember many years ago, asking my grandma to teach me how to make chow chow (yes the same chow chow we discussed on another thread). It is one of my prized memories watching my grandma make the chow chow. I am glad my daughter wanted to learn!

That is so cool!!! Maintaining family traditions and knowing that we are passing them down helps us feel grounded and it's hard to find the words, kinda defines us as a family and sets us a bit apart from everyone else and their family traditions. Hope I said that well. Helps us be unique yet connected. Don't know if I'm communicating the thought, but I think it's awesome that you and your daughter did this and that she ask you to help her with this.

Gayle your post just sounded so sweet. Makes me want to ask my mom to help me cook something, but she didn't like to cook anymore than I do....LOL.

What sweet memories you and your daughter will have of being together. Good for you!!! I love to do things with my kids and grandkids that will make memories!

I can remember when I was really little making biscuits with my Grandma. We mixed them all up and put them in the oven and then I ran next door to tell my aunt what we were doing. When I came back my Grandma was mixing up another batch because we had left the baking powder out and she didn't want me to be disappointed that they didnt' turn out. It ended up that I was disappointed that she hadn't let me help her again. She was such a sweet Grandmother and she only had 4 grandchildren. We all knew that we were so special to her. I miss her.

How wonderful! I love family traditions and rituals. You have a great deal to hand down Gayle, especially your wisdom.

I bet she'll want to carry them on too. My daughter, like yours, could not have cared less either a few years ago. But now that she has daughters of her own, she has come to appreciate things in a different way.

Some of my happiest memories are of my mom and I cooking and baking together. I love when my kids ask me to teach them to make something, and we always have fun doing it! It's nice to see our family traditions passed down.

My aunt makes an amazing pumpkin bread for every holiday - I'm hoping to get the recipe one of these days.
