Bathroom lighting; please help

Here's the scoop. We bought a condo that hasn't been redecorated since the early 80's. The current lighting in the bathroom is the type that comes out of the ceiling with 2 chains that go in each direction with a light hanging down from a hook. I'm not a big fan of the chains & would like to change the lighting when we redo the bathroom which will be soon. However, my hubby says it would be hard to go from a ceiling light to one that comes out of the wall over the vanity. So I've been looking for ideas for a nice bathroom ceiling light that would work & can't seem to find any. Everything I find has the lighting above the mirror. Any help would be appreciated.

Well I'm not much help at all but maybe you can see if you can just change out the globe part and put some fabric over the chain. I don't know if you've seen it done before or not but all they do is make a long tube of fabric, longer than the chain so its bunched up, and slip it on the chain. I know not much help, maybe you should stick with lowes....

Don't really know why it would be so hard to go from the ceiling to the wall. Just poke holes where you want the wiring to go through about your vanity. Then go up in the ceiling and (you might have to add some wiring length), but then take it down between the wall joist and hook your wires together. Presto, new lighting fixture. I'm always redoing something in my walls...hubby isn't thrilled, but too bad!!!

And you know how men are... they always want to take the easy way out! Hold out for what you want. Once it's there you have to live with it!

I do have to admit that when we built our house, we did it so that it would be a little easier to add things, includind a new room or two (we added one, so far). It can be done and most of the time very easily. I love doing this kind of thing.

My husband is like that too, always has time for someone else, but not for at home. Maybe it's the beer he's offered and "manly" companionship. Who Knows!

We switched from a ceiling light to a vanity light in our bathroom. So we have lights over the mirrors. Not sure how the man here did it...will ask him though and see if I can explain it!
