There was a story in my cosmo not long ago about this. About how this one college town had a ton of accidental drunken drownings & what to do to prevent them. I found it really strange myself while reading the article. I went to purdue & a lot of the bars are right on the wabash & i never heard of even one accidental drowning. I can't believe they didn't start looking into this sooner.

That is shocking! As a mom who will be sending her son off to college in a year...

My own son is turning 22 this month... and most of his friends are in their early 20's... so yes, it does worry me!

Oh that is scary, tink. Do you think he will listen to you and take it seriously or is he still in the "It won't happen to me" stage?

Thank God Joel's not much of a drinker. When he does drink he usually does it at home and invites his friends over and collects their keys as they pour their first one.
He had a DUI just over 3 yrs ago and luckily he learned his lesson. He actually called me from the county jail about an hr away at 3 am and said "Mom, I'm in jail for a DUI.... don't suppose you'd want to come bail me out?" I said "You supposed right." So he sat in jail till his hearing at 8 am and was led by 4 armed guards from his cell to the courtroom in shackles, an orange jumpsuit and flip flops 3 sizes too big. He said he was mortified. LOL Was the best thing that they could have done to him. To my knowledge he hasn't done it since. He lost his license for a yr, and paid $2,700 worth of fines and court costs. I don't know which hurt more. Some of his friends haven't learned that lesson yet though, so I do worry.

Yes, they've all been drinking... some huge amounts. One tested .4 something... he should have been dead from just that!

ugh, of course I did go through "the stage" when i was that age, but it was always in my own house. I just wish all the kids who think this is cool could see first hand what a life like this leads to. i saw a few in the nursing homes 9one was only 28) that drinking killed them. I think it should be court ordered to spend a day or so with someone like that for any drinking charge.
