Grandparents
Do any of you know how your grandparents met and fell in love? I always love hearing these kinds of stories.

I know that my grandfather saw my grandmother outside of a movie theater and he whispered to his friend that she was the woman he was going to marry. They are still married today...56 years later.

I have no clue about my grandparents, but my parents story is rather unique.
My Moms older sister married my Dads older brother. Through them, my parents met. Dad took one look at Mom and said "that's the one". Mom looked at Dad and said "He's old!" Mom was 17 and Dad 25. Moms parents are the ones who fell in love with Dad first. They absolutely forced Mom to go out with him. When he proposed, she was still not real pleased about it, but at 18, her parents told her to marry him or else! So she did. Eventually she fell for his kind ways and teddy bear like spirit. He never lost his adoration of her. They had been married 38 years when he passed away.

I am one of the unfortunate ones who never met her grandparents. They were gone before and very shortly after I was born. Dad is no longer here so I can't ask him about his parents and my mother doesn't know. Both set of grandparents divorced and remarried others.
The first of how I knew what grandparents were like was when I started dating my husband. He still had both sets of his. They were wonderful and just exactly how I thought grandparents were suppose to be. They too are gone now. My son never got to know my dad, but loves my Mom even though she is not the devoted grandmother and he knew his grandparents from my husbands side. Now this grandfather is gone and his grandmother is in a nursing home dieing of cancer.

My grandparents passed away when I was very small, all except my maternal grandmother. I was 13 when she died.
My maternal grandparents, born in the 1880's were pen pals. My grandfather even proposed by letter. He lived in Kansas and she in the Oklahoma Territory. I don't know how they started corresponding. I have one living uncle who may know. I will have to ask him. My mother had all of their letters, even the proposal one, but one holiday when a bunch of the family were visiting, she gave one of my cousins most of the letters for some reason. He lives out of town & I don't know what happened to them. My grandparents were very happy together. However, he was over 6' tall, and she was less than 5' so in all of their pictures together, he is sitting and she is standing. He was a farmer and a preacher. They had 7 children. On of my aunts married her pen pal, also, but this was not a happy union, and she died of cancer when she was in her 40's. My mother never allowed me to have a pen pal.

Just curious Marilyn, did she ever tell you why you were never allowed a pen pal?
