Gucci has ear infection
Ladies I don't post in Yorkietalk anymore, and hope its ok to post here... Gucci has an ear infection I found out yesterday when I took her in for her rountine check up. A problem the vet. gave her an ear wash, and two ear drops to apply 2x a day. Well Gucci turns into a beast..lol she will NOT let anyone go near her. I even tried like the vet. suggested a wrap her in a blanket, no can do...
I called the vet. back and she said leave her alone until we get her blood results back if many of you remember Gucci had liver shunt operation last year, so I have to be careful they don't like to give her oral medications for it will pass through the liver.. Now I am a nervous wreck, I am leaving for Niagra Falls tomorrow for the weekend, and my kids will be home with her.... Any good suggestions ?, did anyone have to put ear drops in if so how did you do it! Poor little Gucci has them red and yucky! but she didn't show any signs .. I feel like a bad mommy for I didn't notice it. |

Oh Gina, i am sorry little Gucci has an ear infection, it's very painful as you know, poor baby. I had to put drops in my friends yorkies ears because she also couldnt get it right, no way would she sit/lay still for her, so i took her, held her head with 1 hand tight up against my chest, so she couldnt turn her head or shake, and put the drops down. If that doesnt work then try (i know this sounds terrible) but take a bath towel, wrap her body up against yours, so she just cant get away, and try it that way, easiest would be for you to sit on the sofa, and Gucci tied to you, in the towel. Good luck girl, and i hope she feels better very soon!! Hugs to Gucci.

Could you wait untill she is asleep? sometimes they go into such a deep sleep you may be able to get the drops in before she knows what is going on.

That's too bad that Gucci isn't feeling well. I've never had to deal with ear mites or putting drops in but I do know that when they don't want you to do something they can put up quite a fight. I would probably try EVERYTHING that is suggested!! I hope that she gets to feeling better soon!

I know they fiesty LOL.... the strength they have is unbelievable, it's like they turn into little hulks huh? They dont allow us to do what we want, thats for sure. My Chanel is like Gucci, if i have to clean her ears, you would think i'm commiting a crime, clipping her nails is a nightmare, the only thing she agrees to is brushing her teeth, only if i use her favourite chicken flavoured toothpaste. When are Gucci's blood results back? Keep us posted please, meantime, big hugs to her, and good luck to you!

Poor little Gucci! When they don't want something done, it's almost impossible.
Gracie Leigh is so funny. When I give her drops (homeopathic stuff), she cries. There's no way that hurts! I hope little Gucci feels better soon one way or the other. Maybe if it's allergies, it'll go away on it's own.

These little yorkies are the best actors!! Chelsey hates nail clipping, so much so, she pulls her fainting act on us. I dreaded clipping her nails, so i take her to the vet, i warned my vet about it, before she started, she looked at me like "yeh right" ... she was at her third nail when she "fainted" the vet about died laughing about it, she said, in all her years of practice, she had never seen anything like this. This news traveled so fast, before we got to pay at the counter, all the staff knew about it, the staff came to ask her if it "was really all that bad" ... were trying to pie her with treats, talking nicely to her - they smile everytime we walk in lol

Gucci will not let me near her ears, so I called the vet. and she is going to prescribe a pain medication. I guess she feels that when I lift guccis ears they hurt. I think the Guch is a brat...lol she snaps at me whenever I go near her with the ear drops.. So tomorrow I will pick up the meds and give it to her for a few days , then we shall try again.. Girls I don't know how to put the drops in her ears, I tried everything.. its frustrating. I really hate for her to have oral medication, if I can keep her away from it the better, due to her liver shunt surguery. Any other suggestions I am desperate!!

Gina, is there someone around that can help you hold your little girl? I know this sounds harsh, and i also know what a goofball i am with my girls, i hate doing ANYTHING to them that they dont like, so i know exactly how you feel, but it is important for her to get the meds in her ears, so girl, as much as i hate to even say this, you will have to be firm with her for just a few minutes a day My girls walk away with me, they really do, but when they need their meds, they can turn upside down, or inside out, but for that minute, i am in control LOL Wrap her in a towel, so she cant kick with her legs, let someone hold her head tight, and you put the drops in. Good luck girl, i know this is tough.

Heavy work gloves - I'm not kidding! Then he can bite all he wants. This sounds like a 2 person job. Is your vet close enough so that you can run him over and they can do it a couple of times/day?
You know what made me laugh? The vet handed me 2 bottles of pills yesterday. One is for Max and the othe for Gracie Leigh. Is she crazy? I take the pill, put it under my thumb nail, hold the mouth open with the other hand and the body tight under my elkbow. I stick some Nutrical in their mouths to keep them distracted, then I shove my thumb alt the way down their throats, shove the puill down as far as possible, quickly hold their snouts closed with my hand and rub their throats. It's supposed to make them swallow. My thumb still hurts from being bit.

If they bite, put on a muzzle. If I can handle a 70 lb Lab... I dare bet you can all handle a 5 lb Yorkie. LOL
They know when you're too afraid of hurting them and simly take advantage. smart little s***s! LOL
