Light Bulbs

I am not sure if everyone has seen this already. I am getting rid of my long life bulbs.

This has come up several times on the past few months. I too was ready to give them up till I read this:

http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/cfl.asp

They're no worse than florescent bulbs that we've had around for many years. I've never heard of anyone getting sick from them. So I'll be keeping mine.

I hope that they come up with a safer light bulb made in the USA. I am getting tired of giving my money to China.

I did stop using them, not because of the mercury, but because I got a bad batch that lasts much less time than regular bulbs. It was GE too. It was just a fluke, but they're expensive and I didn't care to buy another box.

I think I'll stick with my regular bulbs until 2014 now that I've read snopes and watched the video about clean-up advice. I'm pretty sure that by then, they will have created safer bulbs.

I'm all for saving the environment, but not at the risk of harming my grandchildren, my dogs, or myself.

I do love the duct tape trick though.

We use CFL's, and have never broken one. We have all kinds, the spiraly ones where looks don't matter, ones that look like incandescent but aren't (if you look closely you can see the spiral tube inside the bulb), the ones that look like flood lights (again you can see the spiral if you look hard). I like the energy savings, and am not concerned about the mercury disposal issue. None of them have quit working, yet, and if they do, I will double bag them like the representative said and send them to the landfill. I guarantee, other folks are sending much more hazardous stuff there all the time. We do have a few incandescents where we want instant light when we hit the switch. The CFL's take a few seconds to get to full strength when turned on.

I wish they were made in the USA, but has anyone checked the country of origin for most everything we use today? It's hard to find anything made in this country any more. Why boycott Chinese made light bulbs when we are wearing their clothes, sweeping with their brooms, brushing our teeth with their tooth brushes, etc, etc. I do believe in buying American as much as possible, and would never feel right buying a Toyota truck even though they are made in San Antonio. The profits still go to Asia.

Okay, I'll hush now....

It seems like everything we use or dispose of is potentially harmful anymore.
