Hubby May Change Jobs
I knew he was very unhappy there, but I had no idea he was this miserable. He works in a auto body shop in Lafayette, about 35 -40 minutes from home. I guess the other few guys that work there don't talk with him and just generally ignore him for the most part.
He's going to talk with a guy he's known for about 20 years about working for him. The guy wants Rick, but Rick needs to make sure he'll be happier there. It's in our home town and will only be about 15 minutes from home. He's going to go talk with him on Monday. He probably won't be making quite as much, so it will most likely get even tighter around here. SUCKS!!!! I am not real sure how I feel about it all. I don't want him to be miserable in a job he has to go to everyday, but he didn't plan very well. He doesn't know how or have any experience/skills to do anything else. Just what I wanted at this age, to keep on struggling. Guess I'd better stop now, before this becomes something that should go in the VENT thread.

Aww Janet that sucks if your hubby is not happy at work, I can understand that. I hope if he gets this other job that he will be happier there. He should really assess the pros and cons , after a certain age its hard to get jobs that easy. I will keep you guys in my prayers and hope all works out well.. Good luck !

I know what you mean about the struggling at this age. I thought we'd be in a much different place at this age. After I became disabled 2 years ago we lost our house and had to move after 16 years. We had to rehome our 3 dogs and 2 cats. (we did manage to get Tucker, one of our dogs, back). Now my hubby is working one full time and two part time jobs and we still can't make ends meet. I hate living like this. Sorry, this thread isn't about me! I hope that your hubby can find something that makes him happy. With the price of gas, maybe the drop in salary won't be too bad since he won't have to drive far for this new job. And, you'll get to see more of him if he isn't commuting.

Suck that the money might be less. Do you think if he's happier, you'll be happier too? There's nothing worth more than happiness. If not, you better get to shopping! I hope something great works out from this change.

Janet, I too hope that things will work out to be a positive for you both!!! Maybe this is why he has been hard to live with. If he's unhappy at work, it's bound to affect things at home. Will be thinking about you, and praying for your family.

Hopefully the difference in the commute will help make up the difference in pay.
My prayers are with you!

Thanks ladies. We won't even know for sure if he'll take the job until after Monday. He's been a nervous wreck here lately and everytime Ricky is mentioned in the same sentence as Eagle rank, he starts crying. I was shocked. He wants Ricky to get the Eagle rank so bad that it is consuming him while being so unhappy in his job. I've just never seen him like this. Ricky only has two more badges to earn and he can have them within the next 60 days...(he has to have it all done by Dec. 20 when he turns 18).
I know you are going through the financial change too Teri..really sucks doesn't it. I thought after working my entire life, that I'd be able to sit back a little bit and take it easy. Doesn't look like that will ever happen unless I win the lottery and I don't play it. Right now I'm just feeling a little defeated. I know it will get better...but for right now it sucks big time.

awww Janet, I am sorry! We seem to have a lot in common! I feel so lonely because Kenny and the kids are never here. I can't really do much and it makes me sad.
Kevin is working on Eagle too, but I'm ready to strangle him! He has everything finished...all of the badges, Eagle project done, EVERYTHING. All he has to do is finish the paperwork and submit it. It's like pulling teeth! He was supposed to go to NC to see a friend next month but I told him he isn't going unless all of the Eagle paperwork is in. The HARD part is done, I don't understand him, I really don't! He'll be 18 Dec 4th. If he doesn't get this done he will regret it forever, but I can't get him to think that far ahead!

That is exactly the way Ricky is. He will wait until the very last minute if we let him. We are on him almost everyday to get more done. He really should have had this done last year, because he was in the exact same position. What are we to do? I did tell him he had until the end of Sept. to get it done or else his computer and game system was being put in my closet until it is.

I must be a real dork!! I just found out today, that my husband has been trying to quit drinking!!! YAY!!!!! I sent Ricky to town to get a Papa John's pizza and was telling his dad that I wanted to put a beer in the freezer so it would get good and cold by the time Ricky got back. He said he hasn't bought any for a month. How great is that????
Now I know why he's so nervous and crying over the Eagle scout thing, withdrawals maybe. Sometimes it's best just to tell me straight out...LOL...I get so busy I just don't notice things.

I don't know what the pay difference is between the two jobs, but he will save quite a bit of money on gas, so that should help a little.
It sounds like your hubby is trying to change & be happier, maybe he wants to reconnect with you. Maybe his week off could be a really good week. |

He went in and talked with the guy this morning. He wants to work there and they want him...sooooo he's going to take the job. He's going to go talk with his boss now on Friday and see what kind of notice he would like if any. I doubt seriously he'll want any because they just don't have the work. So, he'll be right in town now...so much nicer.

Janet, the quitting drinking is a MAJOR step in the right direction! I hope all of this turns out to be the start of some profound improvement for both of you!
My prayers are with you!
