My office is closing
It never fails! Everytime I get a job that I like they either close the business or eliminate the position...This seems to be the story of my life! I am 51 and fear that no one will hire me. I do bartend part time but, that isn't consistent money. I was thinking about taking a nursing course. I was checking out LPN...however, the only course I can find is PN...is there a difference between LPN and PN? I'm a little confused. Maybe the practical nurse doesn't have to be licensed anymore?

Brenda, I'm so sorry. I worry all the time that something will happen with my job. Not that I LOVE my job, but I do love the insurance and the time off it affords me. I really need to find a part time job to help supplement.
I hope you're able to find something you're really interested in and will enjoy....that always helps.

I'm so sorry about your job. With today's economy you just never know what tomorrow might hold. I do know that nursing is one of the top professions to go into and the pay is really, really good. Good luck!!

Aww Brenda sorry to hear the business is closing. With this economy no wonder, i'm wondering about my job too, if the steel mills continue to close, i'll be in the unemployement line also.

Thank you everyone...only thing is...I'm 51..and although that isn't supposed to make a difference....it does. It took me 9 months of looking every day, going to businesses and dropping off my resume, to find the job I have now. I just don't know what I'm going to do. I do bartend part time as well. I just hope it will get me through until I find another job.

It is harder for older adults to find a job - it's not supposed to be but reality, it is. I hope you are persistent and find what you need. I'm sorry you have to go through this. It sounds like you have done everything right, persistence in finding this job, and now it is not your fault that the office is closing!!

Brenda, I just got a phone call from a friend and she was telling me after 22 years of employment with a factory here....they fired her. Please don't feel alone. I know it doesn't make it any better, but it's happening everywhere to all ages of people.
I'll keep you in my prayers that something great will come along for you...don't get too discouraged.

She was told it was because she missed one too many days. She still has vacation days and sick days yet to use, but they wouldn't let her use them. She's only in her early 40's so too young to retire yet. She wants to drive a bus....oh heaven help her!!! LOLOL
