Katie (My 20 yr old dd) went out to peek at the puppies today and when Chip saw her heading toward them, he ran over and got in the dog house with them. Hickory was circling Katie for attention, not in the least bit concerned about her being out there. Chip on the other hand came out, stared at her and PEED on the doorway to mark it as his! I have NEVER seen a male dog so involved in the raising of a litter. It's not a bad thing, but he sure is quirky!
Does your male act like this with the pups? This is the first male I've had that has shown ANY interest in a litter this young.

Joey has not done anything like that, but Emilee and Emilee only (so far) lets Joey in with the pups very early. He will stand with the pups and growl a measly little growl, but that's it.
I find that so fascinating and wonderful at the same time. He is being the protective dad. I've heard/read that wild dogs and some wolves will also do this. I think it is so cool.

He's a real man, protecting his family. That's so cute.
