Flaky Pie Crust Recipe
We sold pies one year at church in our women's group and this is the recipe that we used for the crust. It's always flaky and is very easy to work with. I tossed out the recipe that I had and this is the only one I use now. It makes making pies a lot more fun when you know that the crust is going to turn out good.
Pie Crust 4 c. fFour (not sifted) 1 3/4 c. Butter flavored Crisco (I usually just use plain ole' shortening) 1 tsp. Salt 1 Tbsp. Sugar Cut the flour, salt, sugar, and shortening until fine. Whisk these together: 1/2 c. Water 1 Egg 1 Tbsp. Vinegar Add the liquid to the flour mixture. Blend well. Form into 2 balls, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight. Roll out as usual. Makes 2 - 2 crust pies. (If you don't need that many crusts or if you want you can make them ahead you can freeze them. Just let them thaw a couple of days in the refrigerator before using.)

My mom could NEVER make good pie crusts - I always had to make them and she is a better cook than me. But I remember she finally found a recipe that worked for her and it had vinegar in it - which I thought was so odd. Anyway, I bet this is it!

I can't find the recipe on-line so I'll get it out of my cookbook later for you!
