A few vacation pix
Here are the pix from my iphone - the camera is still in the pickup!!!
1. Barber shop in Eureka Springs Arkansas where Gary got his hair cut. Look closely and you will see it is a barbar shop/trout guide service. Yup, you can get your hair cut and book a guided trout trip at the same time! LOL! 2. deer in our aunt and uncle's back yard - we are on the upper balcony looking down on them 3. Beaver lake 3. Rex is cold!

some more....
1. a mini replica of the golden gate bridge out in the middle of nowhere - well, it was a Table Rock lake, but so odd to see it way out in the country. Oh and it is only one lane, you have to wait for cars to come across before you can go. 2. just a mansion on the hillside (or a hotel - I'm not sure) 3. the water in the river is VERY cold, so every evening and morning, it is covered with fog 4. foggy river.

HI All, just a few details from the trip.
We started at Athens Texas at the Texas State fish hatchery. It was very interesting and Gary loved it. Next we travelled to Beaver Lake and camped on the White river. We were right below a dam on the lake. It was so beautiful - it was the same campground and site where we were in May/June. We fished almost every morning and evening. They generate electricity at the dam during the day, so about 3:00PM every day, they started letting water out of the lake so the river where we were camped would raise about 10 feet and flow really fast. You really couldn't fish during this time, so we would vegetate, shop, sightsee, nap or whatever. About 6-7PM, they shut off the flow and the river would go back to normal in about 45 minutes. The fishing was pretty good at that time. So we would fish till dark. Gary's aunt and uncle live on Beaver lake and they have a pontoon boat and we would go out with them in the evenings some to fish for small mouth bass or stripers. It was very pretty. The weather was very cool, unusually cool for that area in July - so we were very lucky. It was over 100 every day in Austin while we were gone so we enjoyed some really good weather. When our reservations were up, Gary was not ready to come home, so we moved to another spot on the river, about 100 miles east. It was just as beautiful and the fishing was even BETTER! We caught 42 trout in 3 days - which was about as many as we had caught at the other location in 2 weeks! We had so much fun!!! The river was lower and had more wading places, so Gary was able to fly fish there too. He loves to fly fish (the pictures above of him standing in the river) but can't do it for very long or can't do it if the water is deep or flowing because he just isn't strong enough to stand up. This is the first vacation that Gary and I have taken alone in a long time. Usually we have our granddaughter, friends, or relatives that go with us. So, it was really nice to be alone together for 3 weeks. We really had a great time. Gary's health is deteriorating or maybe his meds just need to be adjusted - we see the doctor on Tuesday. I don't know how many more trips like this he will be able to make - but this one sure was GREAT!!!

Gayle....the pics are beautiful!! I would have loved being there too. That's my kind of vacation. Fishing has always been my number one thing to do, but I haven't been in 3 or 4 years. The creeks and rivers around here are just too dirty. I remember when I was young that the same creeks we use to go to all the time and could almost see the bottom..are now so cloudy and dirty. Very sad.
My favorite thing to catch were catfish. We used to have some of the best fish fries. Those were a little big for eating, but what fun to catch. I'm going back to look at the pics again... I'm so glad you're back!!!

The first 7 pix were taken with my iphone - it really does surprisingly well! The rest of the pix were taken with our Fuji Film 8100. We just got it last year right before we went to Alaska because it has an 18 power zoom and lots of things in Alaska are waaaaaay far away! We just love it. I really don't know how to use it except on auto - so sometimes the pix don't turn out very well because you need to do something different than auto. For the most part, the pix are great and it is so fun to be able to take far away pictures and have them appear to be close up!

Janet! You should live closer!!! Gary loves to catfish - in fact that's almost exclusively what he fishes for here in Texas. We have a big fish fry every Memorial Day weekend. Catfish is the usual fish with a few bass, crappie or trout thrown in. But everyone perfers catfish! MMMMMMM!!!!!!
