Great tips! Something I have done before with telemarketing calls is this: I have an air horn I take to football games and keep it "handy" when at home. If I get one of "those" calls, before I answer the phone, I grab the air horn, grab the cordless phone, and run out side. I answer the phone and without saying anything, I wait for the person on the other end of the phone to say hello. As soon as they do, they are MINE! I give that horn a quick blast into the phone - they don't call me back! I have also used the "hold on, please" technique in the past and it does work!!!
Thanks for sharing the tips!

LOL!! Yep....but it works. I wouldn't recommend doing this for anyone who lives in the city limits (neighbors might complain) but living out in the country, private, isolated - it works!! When the boys hear that horn at the house, they don't even ask anymore, they know why it sounded. Hubby thinks it's hilarious too!

I haven't had too many telemarketers calling since I signed the "no call" list. It use to be sooooo annoying. I know everyone needs a job, but I could never ever do that one.

Our old roommate used to mess with the telemarketers. One of the things he would do would be make them think he was really interested in whatever they were selling, even give them a fake credit card number and everything, then at the very end he would just hang up right before they finished up. They'd usually call back thinking they were just disconnected, but we'd see their number on the caller ID and not answer it and laugh. Sometimes it was pretty funny.
I know spanish also, so sometimes when I answer I'll just start speaking spanish - they usually get frustrated and just hang up. Or someone from a bank would call and say how much money they could save us be re-financing our mortgage, and he'd be like "no, the house is paid off, but I'd really like to re-fi my fish tank."

Some of the telemarkerters were very rude...I remember one that called and I said very politely mind you, that I was not interested, said thank you and then hung up. I was fixing supper at the time. No sooner had I hung up, the same guy called and when I answered he said...."How does it feel, bi**h?" and hung up. He just yelled it into the phone and slammed his receiver down. It wasn't like I slammed the receiver down on him, I even said thank you...but he was a nut case. Glad I don't get them any more....

Ohhhhhhhhh Id be madder as hell if that happened to me!!!! This is a time when Id wish I had caller id because Id make it a mission of mine to make this guys life for a while a living hell. I'm just that way. I refuse, let me say this again, REFUSE to allow people to be rude to me. I have some neighbors on my list now that I will get back at them some day come hell or highwater. I know it's not nice, but it seems these days so many people feel they have some right to be downright rude to others. Did they somehow forget the golden rule their own Mama's tried to teach them when they were little?? I dunno? But I feel I have the time in my day to see to it that every rude person pays the price!

I was wanting to turn that creep in, but there was no number on the caller ID and when I pushed *69 to call him back, it didn't work. I would have loved to be the reason he lost his job!!! Then we'd see who had the last laugh!!!!
