I am so mad I could spit!!!
I got arrested last night!!! Of course, I am innocent, but I am so upset by the whole thing today that I think it will take me a couple of days to calm down!
I was driving home from a really nice (but expensive) day with my Homegoods purchases and my new Radiesse (dermal filler injections). I got pulled over by a trooper. My headlight was out, which warrants a ticket to be forgiven once the light is fixed. As I was looking for my registration, he noticed a white pill bottle in my bag. I keep advil and a few Librium in there. I had no idea that you have to carry controlled medication in their original bottle. After 63 years of never having been accused of any crime whatsoever, I was told that I was being arrested!!! Thank goodness he was a nice guy! I almost fainted when he told me that he was "taking me in." He calmed me down and explained that he had to and not to worry. It's only to be booked and no...I do not have to spend time in jail! He got a tow truck to bring my car to the station so that I wouldn't have to pay impound charges. The tow cost me $151.00 though!!! And I am innocent!!! I have a prescription which I have to bring to court on 1/26. I can't wait to see how much they fine me for carrying these pills in the wrong bottle!!! They sell pill boxes for goodness sake! Nobody knows about this law. Even the troopers told me that at the station. Before I got into the police car, he had handcuffs to put on me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!After he saw my reaction, he put them away. He kept on asking me if I'm going to give him trouble. He said that since I had been so cooperative, he wouldn't handcuff me, and, if anybody asked, I should tell them that he had patted me down. Then he kept asking me if I feel okay, if I had taken any of them before driving. I got fingerprinted, photographed, and had to pass a sobriety test, part of which has to do with walking a straight line and standing on one foot. I have zero balance, but I was clearly not high, although he was concerned that my pupils were contracted. Then he said that the lights were bright in the station which probably caused that. Then, my eyes were reddish. I have dry eyes, had been driving with the heater on for 2 hours, and I was tired! He let it all go. Truthfully, he was very nice to mde, and went out of his way to assure me not to worry. I really did like him and I do appreciate the fact that he did his job so throroughly. There are lots of drugs up here, and drunk drivers, and one of them could hurt one of my grandchildren! On the other hand, I am horrified that I was arrested. I think when I saw the handcuffs that really did it too me! I am very angry too because, coming from NYC, there is no way any cop would spend 2 minutes on this nonsense. You would have thought it was the crime of the century. I ws the only "criminal" in the station, and everybody got involved. I also do have to laugh though because I have done one or two wrong things in my life. I am a child of the 60's after all. I never worried for one second back then! Now, at the age of 63, with a few prescription pills in my bag, I finally get caught! I am laughing about it, but the adrenalin is still running through my body. I can never let my daughter know! I asked them to please not let this get into the police blotter in the paper. He said he wouldn't, but who knows. I will be so embarrassed!

Oh My Goodness Judy, I'm so sorry this happened to you, (but must admit I am sitting here chuckling about it.) I can just imagine how horrifed you were, especially when he pulled out the handcuffs, that would have sent me over the edge.
I do know that it is against the law to carry a controlled substance in anything except the originale container, and i have been guilty of doing the same thing, guess i better go check out my purse just to be on the safe side. Again i am sorry that you had to go through all of that, and hope you don't have to pay to hefty of a fine, surley they will let you off with a warning, they let real drug users get by with murder and don't do anything to them.

Oh My Holy God!!! Excuse me, but that is just ridiculous. And you are right, it is a case of not having enough to do! I grew up in a small town and so I completely understand what happened to you and also know that if you were in the city it would NEVER happen.
I would be so pissed I would spit nails. I'll tell you what, I know you are supposed to carry controlled meds in the original containers, but both Gary and I carry them in unmarked containers, and it never occurred to me that anyone would actually arrest you for that. I've thought that if I ever committed some other crime , and they found the pills, that I would get popped for that too, but NEVER thought about anyone arresting me for that offense alone. Gary ALWAYS carries both pain pills (narcotic) and muscle relaxers in his wooden pill case in his pocket because he never knows when he might need them. LOL! He's gone through the airport security dozens of times with that wooden pill box in his pocket!!! OMG! I don't know what would happen if they tried to arrest him!!! He might go bonkers! Judy, I would be horrified, mortified, pissed off and innumerable other things too. And I know what you mean about the police blotter in the new paper! Everyone looks at it in my little town to see who's mad at who or who's kid did what. I hope with all my heart that he can keep it out of the newspaper!!! I'm so sorry it happened to you, that is just a crock of sh!t !!!!!

Well you aren't the only one that carries narcs in a little white pill bottle Good grief...I just went through airport security with excedrin, muscle relaxers, and pain pills in a bottle together, and the drugs aren't even prescribed for me. I keep them in case Mike needs it and forgets his!! Arresting you was totally uncalled for!!

See Judy, we all do it. LOL! Betsi, you might go to jail for the rest of your life for all those drugs! But never fear because Gary and I will be right there with you! LOL!
I know it wasn't funny AT ALL Judy, but the point is that everyone does it (well LOTS of us do), and to be arrested for it is just plain STUPID!

Wow Judy!!! How horrible!! I am guilty too. Easier to keep a few pills all together in one bottle. Had no idea it was against the law!!!
Good luck to you. Hope the charges are dropped when you take the proof you need/have to the court. I bet you were mad!! I got arrested years ago myself. Stupid, I was at a local establishment. The manager didn't like me. Oh well. I didn't like her either! Wasn't there to see her. Anyway, she told me to leave. I refused as I was in a public establisment. Doing nothing wrong. To make a long story short, she called the police. I sat there and waited... because I was doing nothing wrong. Well guess what? I was arrested and taken out in handcuffs! The charges were dropped when I told my story to the judge, but name was in paper and was such an embarrassment. Everyone saw it as I live in a small town. A few years later she lost her job due to embezzling money. Love Karma!! |

I carry some meds in my purse too that are in a little Ziplock bag......so I guess that I can plan on being arrested for that next time I get stopped!!......Stupid laws!!!!!

Now I am worried that the judge will be an a++hole, and make a big fuss about this! I know I can only be fined, but my fears have me sitting in jail already! I also really do not want to be questioned and speechified to about the dangers of narcotics, driving and drugs, etc., etc.
Do you remember when I told the judge in Traffic Court in NYC that he was a moron? I am so different up here. I do whatever I am told, and speak only when spoken to, and with a pleasant smile on my face! In rural America, it seems that you are guilty until proven innocent, and then they fine you anyway.

Don't fret, it will be OK.

It's filed away, along with my fingerprints and...are you ready for this? a picture of the drugs.com description of librium AND a photocopied picture of one of my librium!
I really did not break the law according to this definition of the charge that I was not carrying it the original bottle: 3345¹ Possession of Controlled Substances by Ultimate Users Original Container Except for the purpose of current use by the person or animal for whom such substance was prescribed or dispensed, it shall be unlawful for an ultimate user of controlled substances to possess such substance outside of the original container in which it was dispensed. Violation of this provision shall be an offense punishable by a fine of not more than fifty dollars. I am taking a copy of this to court, but probably won't show it if the fine is fair.
