Mom Update

I took Mom to her regular Dr. today. She had bloodwork done last Tuesday so it would be ready for today. She also has a very bad cough so wanted to get it checked.

While listening to Mom's chest, her Dr. said she could hear lots of crackling so had Mom get a xray while she was there. She wanted to see if it was bronchittis or pneumonia. Her Dr. doesn't really think it looks like either, but fluid in the lungs because of heart failure. Gayle...is this correct? Mom kind of went off in her own world then and I'm sure doesn't remember her saying that.

Mom was prescribed a Z pac for an antibiotic and hopefully it will help. She also had to have the blood work done all over again. They send it to another city and somehow it got cancelled along with some other peoples. Mom's color isn't good and both the nurse and Dr. noticed it. Mom did cry a bit in the Dr's office because she is just tired of feeling so weak and tired all the time. She has always been so active.

To make her feel a bit better I took her to Wal Mart to pick up her prescription and taught her how to use one of those motorized carts. She absolutely love it! Thinks she's some kind of race driver now.....LOL. It sure lifted her spirits.

Your poor Mom Janet! She has been thru so much.. this getting older is not easy.
I sincerely pray she will be getting her strength back, and feeling better soon.
I am glad you got her on that motorized cart, I can just see her zipping around the store!

That was a great idea to show her how to drive a cart! I'm sorry she feels so bad. My mom had a terrible cough with her CHF.

Yes, the fluid in her lungs is from the heart failure. It's also why she feels so weak and tired all the time. Gary fights through that too. He takes LOTS of fluid pills to keep it off his lungs. But your mom's condition is hampered by her kidney failure - so not only does she have fluid buildup from heart failure, but also from kidney failure, so she has a double whammy!

Gary has to use the carts in Walmart too, when he is not feeling good. At first he was embarrassed, but now he's just like your mom - a race car driver - LOL! Although sometimes you get a reallllllly slooooow cart, and it is so funny to see him put-putting along like a snail.

I hope your Mom is feeling better Janet. She sure has been through alot. It's the same with my Dad. Some fairly good days and some not so good.

I'm glad she enjoyed driving the cart! My Dad has to use them sometimes too. And so did my Mom when she broke her leg. They can be hilarious in those things

Janet, I'm so sorry that your Mom had more bad news. I'm sure that she is definitely in shock over the news. Hopefully the doctor will give her some meds that will help in getting the fluid off of her lungs without interferring with her kidney function. Life is sure hitting your Mom hard. Hugs to both of you!!!

Taking her to Wal-mart and getting her a motorized cart was a great idea!!! I'm sure that she felt some of her freedom return......even if it was only in one store!!! Watch out Wal-mart shoppers......Violet's got wheels!!!!!!
