So excited!

I'm far from being able to call myself a computer geek. There's a whole lot I don't know, yet my experience in sales and marketing is giving me a slight leg up this time.

I opened my website just weeks ago and have been working to get it seen... not a small feat when you consider how many are out there! So I've been writing and tweaking and using all the free ad space I can find to get it launched and today I met a personal goal of getting over 200 page views in a single day! I'm SO excited! It can take up to 6 months for search engines to recognize a site, so sometimes a bit of creativity is called for. Thank goodness it works!

Just had to share my excitement!

Yes Judy, the site is devoted tot he dogs and getting them seen so I sell them quickly. It really helps to have people able to look at the pictures, read about them, and know what to expect before they even call. I can sriouslyly say it was thanks to the site that the ones fri and sat got chosen.

What else were you trying to do, Tink? If I didn't know better I'd think that you had Alzheimers or something!!!!

Diana, the phone was ringing, I had people here chattering and distracting me, and I just don't multi-task well. I know that and yet I tried and failed once again. LOL

Judy,
Yes, the website was responsible in large part for the sales I made this weekend. People are spending longer and longer on the site and I have some that have returned many times, which is a good sign. (Gotta love that stat counter!) It takes time to start drawing people to a site, and as I said, the search engines don't always start to recognize a site right away either, so those don't help much at first. But in the past 7 days I have over 1000 page views, so that's encouraging!

Several of my buyers are 3-4 hrs away, so didn't want to drive here twice... they've ended up picking pups based on pictures on the site and emails I've exchanged with them. Without the site it wouldn't be nearly as successful. I have 3 paid ads coming out this week, and made sure to list the site addy in each... that way people can look before they contact me. I've gotten a couple of very nice compliments on the site from buyers, so they do like using it.

It's at www.tinkerdoodle.net for anyone who hasn't seen it and would like to.

Tink,

It's really good! I loved it the first rime, and the refined version is so classy and professional.

My computer guy wants me to start a website. You can make quite a few dollars
from the ads. He pulls in a few hundred/month. I hope you do as well!
(I can't think of a focus for a website for myself).

Judy, how about creative writing for your focus? Didn't you used to teach it? How many average janes and joes have you met who seem to think they're capable of turning out the next best selling novel? I bet it could be a HIT!

Tink,

That's a thought....it's a lot of work though, unless I don't have to proof everybody's writing. It would have to be a group where everyone assesses everyone else's work. I could give one exercise/week or 2 weeks, have a feedback period.....

Like I said, it's a thought - a good one, actually.

Journal writing is also something people like to do and share, and involves no proofreading, editing, or real teaching. Then, we could publish each journal online or something.

Thanks!

Judy, I wonder if you could just provide a place for people to submit their original work and let them critique each other. Keep your own participation other than the administrative tasks very minimal so the site could pretty much run itself; and have pages of tips and education on how to write effectively; again, as instruction that they could access to get more page views.

I bet you could make it work if you chose to.
