Trading vehicles
I have someone wanting to buy my car, and my cutie pattooty mechanic has stepped in to help me out again.
He has an Oldsmobile Bravada, a mid-sized SUV that's All wheel drive, that he's recently put a new engine, transmission, new paint, and lots of other parts into that he's willing to sell me for the same price I've been offered for my car. Since Greg's home so seldom, If it snows I'm pretty much stranded here as I can't shovel snow with my heart problems. So a vehicle like the Bravada would be a real blessing if I truly need to get to town. It's also a 4 door which I prefer, and has a big enough cargo area to put a big dog crate in the back when I need to haul one of the dogs to the vet or where ever. It won't get the gas mileage that my car does, but I don't go far, so for me that's not a major issue. Greg was content to keep my car, but once he learned all that Trevor has done to the Bravada he agreed to let me trade. He did cringe when I told him that a bigger vehicle would be nice for when I spend a day going to garage sales. LOL Comically, the Bravada is a 1992, which is pretty old, but since everything has been replaced and updated on it, very little of it is original anyway. It's completely rust and dent free, and will likely last as long if not longer than my much newer car that has MEGA miles on it. Now if I get the job I'm interviewing for at least I know I'll be able to get out of the driveway to get there!

That's great Tink. It's nice knowing someone who can fix a vehicle up.
This is what my husband does for a living. We've been married 32 years and at one time we sat down and counted all the vehicles we've had. Some we only drove a few months and sold or drove a few years and then sold. But anyway, we've had over 15 different trucks and 25 different cars/suv's. I have a 2000 Dodge Caravan right now and I love it, but I'm wanting a 4-wheel drive SUV myself. The van just doesn't do as well as I would like in the snow. I'm not sure what I want, but I'm looking for newer jeep, or 4-Runner. I'll know it when I see it. Again, we will buy it wrecked and hubby will fix it. I know you're going to love the freedom of knowing you can get out when you want to in bad weather.

That sounds like a really good deal, Tink. I've driven older vehicles too and as long as you're happy with them, then that's all that matters. We always figured that we didn't have to worry too much about gas mileage when we didn't pay too much for the vehicle. It sounds like "your mechanic" will take good care of you too.

What a good deal you're getting!! It's also important to know that you can get out when you need to.
Good luck with the new car! I only buy used cars and then drive them until they absolutely die. My last one was 14 years old when I had to let it go, and this one is 10 years old. I never worry about the age - it's how well it checks out by my mechanic.

That's how we are Judy.
Greg used to buy new cars till I came along... lol I can't see the point since you lose so much value immediately. I don't need to impress anyone and I sure don't want car payments! So it's used cars for me all the way.

That's the way we feel too...we don't want any car payments! I've never had a brand new car...and well, I really would like to have one just once in my life....AS LONG AS I DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT....ROFLMBO!!!!!!
As you get to buy a used one Judy...I have to go to a salvage yard to pick mine out...LOLOL

I would too if I had someone to fix them up for me! In NYC, if you have to park on the street, I think it's pointless to have a new car. The bumpers are scratched up very soon because everybody squeezes into parking spots. There's also how many times when you park in a lot and come out to find a scrape. a dent, a ding, etc. I've always bought my cars the same way. I decide how much I can spend, buy the Consumers Car Book, find their Best Buys for that amount, and then go look for it. I always drive a stick and my last 3 cars have been sports cars. I have a mechanic I really trust and have the car checked out by him before I buy it. It's a good system.

Lucky for me, both dh and ds are mechanically inclined, so they can handle most of the work... what they can't do or don't have time or tools for I call Trevor. So in this respect I'm in good hands.

You're on! Nice and warm, not crowded, dog-friendly, good people there, lots of squash, no thongs, except the shoes.
Sounds like Tahiti! Who else is coming?
