He has a job!!!!
Well my son got a call yesterday and started working today. He had to be a a pick-up spot at 6:30 this morning. He got up and looked out the window and said "so this is what it looks like at 5:30 in the morning." LOLOLOL
It's suppose to be hot and humid so I hope he does alright. I'm not sure what it is or how to spell it, but he's derogueing or something like that. I think it's what they do before they detassel. I'm gonna have to do a search and find out what my boy is doing?....LOL Just checked it out...something about removing undesirable plants....???

YEAH I'm glad he found work!
I think it's SO good for teens to work at manual labor jobs. They find out just how hard it is to earn a living and how important an education is if they'd rather use their mind than their back. Congrats Janet!

Well, son is home and exhausted! Not from the work, but from the heat. He said all he had to do was remove the taller corn plants. So it wasn't really all that physical, (except for the walking), but it was sunshine and 87 degrees. The next couple of days it's suppose to be in the 90's and he has to work.
I told him to remember that his grandparents had to work in those hot greenhouses in the summer and they did it for years. It will just take him some time to get use to it. He takes plenty of water and uses sunscreen, so he should be alright. They make them take a lot of water breaks. He'll forget about the heat when he gets his first paycheck...lol He loves money and is quite the saver.

Congratulations to him! Can he wear a wet towel around his neck? I always found that to be helpful in my school when it got too hot. The kids did it too. They carried a rag with them and periodically wet it.
Might be a NY thing. We don't have an opportunity to work outside in the fields. Anyway, I'm happy for him. He sounds like such a good kid.

Good for Rick!!!! This will be a great experience for him. They can't get young men to do work like this around here. 30 years ago, high school boys wanted to haul hay and do farm work to build up muscles for football season. Now they go to air conditioned gyms and the farmers have to resort to hiring whoever they can get, often they are left no recourse but to hire illegals.
Rick is doing good honest work and you are very appropriately proud of him!!!!
