So frustrating
Our "problem neighbors" have a yellow lab pup that's about 5 months old. She's let run loose and is not taught any manners etc by them. In the past week she's run off with and destroyed 2 planters full of my flowers, and a child size lawn chair from my place. She got hold of a brand new shoe and chewed the tongue out of it, and destroyed a bird bath at another neighbors place. She's been caught in the amish families chicken coop killing and maiming their birds.
She's not a dumb dog, she's just not given attention or training. She eats with my dogs and drinks water from their pool. She's learned not to jump on me, sits when I tell her to, and now comes when I call her. She's here more than home, but I truly don't need or want her. Before when the man next door was in jail, their animals were simply abandoned. I rehomed a couple of their cats and several neighbors fed and watered their other cats and a dog. I'm guessing this dog will soon be abandoned too. Last time this happened I called our county humane society and was told they'd take the animals IF I'd bring them to them and pay $25 for each one I brought in. I'd also have to sign surrender papers so if they ever came looking for the animals they could tell them who gave them up. I thought this was ludicrous! Would I be wrong in just finding these animals new homes myself right away this time? I am so turned off by the local HS that I don't even want to contact them, but those poor animals deserve homes! They are going to end up dead if they keep raising caine and once my fence is up, hopefully they won't be able to get in with my dogs anymore. I don't however want them to starve. They have 2 cats and the lab pup.

Goodness Tink, these neighbors give you more problems! I can't believe you have to pay to drop an animal off at the shelter. Never heard that one before. I'd be worried this dog isn't up on his shots and could possibly pass something on to yours. Maybe a neighboring county shelter will take it for free.

It's a shame that you find yourself in such a problem. Even with rescue they make you sign surrender papers.........the pound is the only place that will not charge you.........at least in my county. Do you have leash laws??? Perhaps they would be better off if they were received into the pound to find a home. Don't know why people like that even get pets in the first place.

This is the 3rd yellow lab pup these people have had in about a year.
The first one they ended up giving away because they said she was too rough and hard to have around. The second one got hit on the road and killed. They look like purebreds, but have no papers and they pick them up for $20 - $30 a piece most likely from some idiot who has the same low concern for their dogs that they do. ALL any of those dogs would have needed would have been some love, attention and training. Why they keep getting another one is beyond me. They said they named this one "LUCKY" hoping she would be... they have no clue. I'd be shocked if she's ever been to a vet. She seems to be healthy, but won't be for long without shots or worming, etc. If we just let her be the neighborhood dog like we did the other, she's sure to end up getting pregnant, which will just compound the problem. The last time this happened, they had a border collie male. He finally ended up going to a farm several miles away. I think HE was lucky. I came right out and asked what they plan to do with the animals. The woman of the house said she's taking the female cat with her, leaving the male cat behind and that the Pup would have to be her dhs' problem... he's the one in jail. So I took that to mean the pup will be left behind as well. I told her the animals need someone to take care of them and she said "It's not my problem." Which I suppose means it will become ours. Argggggggggggggggg

Dear Tink,
You were given this neighbor for a reason! You will definitely grow, learn, accomplish and become more from this experience. How's that working out for ya? Judy

Oh my Tink! These neighbors never give you any time to rest do they?? That poor puppy! I think you should do whatever is in it's best interest, because it sure seems that the owners aren't! He doesn't deserve to suffer just because of their bad decisions.

It may not be legal to give someone else's dog away, but I think this is one of those situations where legal and moral are in opposition to each other. I doubt anyone will even ask where the pup went... so I'm going to try to find it a new home where it will be taken care of properly. Someone has to do something, so maybe it's my chance to be "someone" huh? LOL
