Blake(my son)

We decided to take the kids to tthe fair on Wed.evening to ride some rides.Well this year they had a mechanical bull there and I wanted Blake to see it.Lat thingwe were doing for the night. He wanted to ride it and I said no but he evetually talked me into it .The first ride went well.So they let him back on it and when he fell he must have fell the wrong way and hurt his arm.We took him to the ER an dthey took x-rays and he broke it up by his shoulder and bicep.Like right between them.So on Thurs.morningwe took him to a bone specialist and they did surgery on him to put it back where it's supposed to be.They were going to put pins in it but decided not to since it was so close to the growth plate. He is now all bandaged up with this wedge like thing on his arm to keep it in place. He has to wear this for at least 3-4 weeks and then maybe a cast of some sort.I will attach a pic.so you can see him.I have been kicking myself for giving in to him.

{{{Faith}}} don't be too hard on yourself over this. Kids are constantly trying new things and sometimes they ARE going to get hurt. It would be a different matter if he'd have been on a REAL bull... LOL Then you'd have some "splainin to do.

Please remember he's not the first kid to fall... or break a bone... or get laid up for a while over it. Just think of the cool story he'll have to tell his friends when he gets back to school! LOL

When I was 12, my parents let me buy my first horse. It was UNbroke and I had the job of breaking it. I ended up with a concussion and fractured skulll, and a 2 night hospital stay, but I finally got him broke. I also went on to break many more after. I have NO regrets and I sure don't blame my parents. Sometimes you just have to give them some space and pray for the best.

Have you ever heard of the Little Britches Rodeo Association? http://www.nlbra.com/
It's a HUGE group that does rodeos with kids ages 8 - 18 nationwide. I know a few who've participated from my area. They have a ball. Blake might enjoy learning about them while he's laid up. Hang tough... You're a good mom when you let him try his wings.

I agree with Tink. You have to let him experience life and once in a while kids DO get hurt.

I know a couple of moms who are very over-protective. My daughter just has a fit when one of them is a sponsor on an outing. They can't do anything because "you know you might get hurt". That's not how me or my family wants to live our lives and, yes, we've had some accidents but they've been few and far between.

How could you say no to that face anyway?

I used to tell my ex that I'd rather Jessie (my daughter) made mistakes, got hurt, etc. while she was living at home with us to help her pick up the pieces than when she was on her own.
