Not a happy birthday at all so far
So my dog, Layla, has been not well lately. I don't know what's wrong. She has rashes and sneezes and isn't breathing right. I took her in for the rashes last week and she got pills but it didn't help. I made an appointment for today at 2:15. It takes me 15 minutes to get home at the most, and 15 minutes to get from home to the vet. I left work at 1:45 and there was a train across the most busy street in the city. It took 10 minutes to cross. I got home at 2:10 and called and they said I could reschedule for 4:15... there was a surgery at 2:30.
So I went right back to work, missing an hour for nothing. I finished this drawing I had been working on all day for another engineer (who took the day off). I took the drawing to my boss and he said everything was wrong and wanted a million more things and looked at me like I was stupid when I didn't know stuff about laying out pipes. When I asked something he would snap back at me. And maybe it was my pms, or the stress that's been buliding up, but I started to tear up and I had to block out what he was saying. I kept looking at my watch and he kept looking annoyed. It was 3:50 and I said "I'm sorry, I have an appointment at 4:15 I need to get to" as I started gathering my papers and he said "Now just hold on I need to see what you did here" and I said "I'm going to be late, I'm sorry" and he just kept talking and went through a couple more things and then let me go. I got to my computer and the other drafter said "You better hurry!" I looked at the clock at it was 4:00. I was shutting stuff down as fast as I could and I called the vet, saying I was running a little late and could I get in at 4:30, and she said no. No more openings. I got an appointment at 3 tomorrow with a different vet. And then I sat down, and the tears overflowed. And I tried to stop them and be really quiet because I share the room with a guy. Eventually I just said I'm going home. I got home, and Layla is usually energetic and she's just laying on my bed. She didn't greet me at all, didn't even wag her tail. She's just laying there. I feel terrible for her. I can't beleive I missed two appointments. When I told Kyle how upset I was about missing them, he just said "So I assume you won't go for supper now if you have to take your dog to the vet again" and it just really bothered me how he said that. Now I'm at home and I'm still crying, and I somehow have to get into a happy party mood tonight. I think this is the worst birthday I've had so far.

Lindsey, I'm sorry things aren't working out as you had hoped. Sounds like you're feeling like I did on Mother's Day. It will get better, but you already know that. Please make sure Layla is okay before you leave this evening. Have a good time.

Thanks Janet. A few people are over at my house right now and Layla is acting completely better other than the sneezing. I don't know what was up with her earlier. She's being very energetic and she met me at the door when I came home from my supper with Kyle.

You may have to have her checked out for allergies. Hopefully the Vet will get Layla feeling even better.

How is Layla today? I hope you have a better day than yesterday. It seems like it's twice as bad when you have a crappy day on your birthday, doesn't it? {{{hugs}}}

Ahhh! A bad birthday is just awful. I hope today is better. Has Layla gotten to a vet yet? It does sound like allergies or just a reaction to the heat.

I got Layla to the vet today and he thinks since the last pills didn't make a difference, it might be a bacterial infection, which could also be causing the sneezing and coughing and weezing and snorting (which just started today). He gave me antibiotics for her, and I have to go back in a week for another checkup. She also has to have a molar removed She's only 2 and a half years old and every vet has told me her teeth look good, but he showed me that there's back molar almost ready to fall out
Last night unfortunately didn't get much better. A friend from high school was in town, and I hadn't seen her in 2 years. My roommate was never really friends with her, but they hung out every once in awhile when they lived in the same city. She completely made her ignore me... she was just all over her all the time and basically the only time we talked was when I was doing her hair, for about 10 minutes. They came out to the lounge with my group of friends, but my roommate kept complaining about how boring it was and they only came out to dance, and she convinced the other girl to leave with her, after not even being there an hour. I was pretty choked about that. I went out to my least favorite bar for my roommate's birthday and stayed until it closed. She couldn't even stay at my birthday for an hour. But everyone else made me feel a little better. When I came home today all she did was talk about how awesome her night was and how horrible of a time she was having at my party. I couldn't take it because I was about to snap, so I left and went to Kyle's for the rest of the day. Everyone else that came out (and stayed!) last night was at Kyle's, and they all said they weren't impressed with how my roommate was acting last night And I feel bad for spending NO time with my other friend, who came in to the city to see me. Oh well, maybe next year will be better!

I'm sorry this happened to you. Hope Layla feels better. Gracie was just sick
with similar symptoms. It only lasted a few days.

Layla has had her rash and sneezing for over two weeks now. She seems fine when she's sleeping, she breathes fine and everything, but as soon as she gets up she's sneezing again. Last night she was sniffing the floor when she sneezed, and she sneezed so hard she banged her head on the floor when she shook it! Then she was having trouble breathing before going to sleep. She stood up all of a sudden and was gasping for air I feel so bad for my poor baby. I am terrified that she's going to get worse while I'm gone. I don't know if I can trust my brother or my roommate to give her pills for 2 days.

No problem Diana
Layla is doing much better. Her sneezing has lessened considerably and she's breathing well. Most of the rash on her tummy is gone too, just a few spots of dry skin left and a bit of discoloration. I took her in for a recheck at the vet yesterday and they gave me an extra week of antibiotics, and said that should do it! I also asked about her teeth and I guess the rest of her teeth look good enough and her gums are healthy enough that she doesn't need a complete dental done. The vet said it's very simple to just sedate her, pull the one tooth, and be done. She said it wouldn't cost more than $80 or $90 in total which is a HUGE relief!
