anyone know anything about civil weddings?
Ok so My boyfriend and I have decided to do a civil wedding, perhaps tomorrow
but i have NO freakin clue how to go about doing it.. anyone know what im supposed to do? do i have to have a witness? we are planning on having a really big wedding in a few years when Tianna is old enough to be the flower girl, but for now we need to be legally married so that Tianna and I can be added onto his open enrollment for medical insurance. so that's why we decided a civil wedding... my dad said there are chapels that do same day marriages, but i have not a clue where to find them.. on the internet all i get are same sex marriage things lol.. help! |

Your city mayor can perform a civil ceremony. Give him/her a call and see what you need.

You can also go to the courthouse. Just call the courthouse and they will point you in the right direction.

Don't know how it is done in Cali but here in NY, you have to go to the city hall/marriage license bureau and apply for a marriage license. you have to take proof of ID (eg. birth certificates, passports, driver's license) and a money order for the appropriate fees. In NYC, it is required that you wait 24 hours after acquiring the marriage license before getting married. Then you can go back to the courthouse, any church or chapel and have the ceremony performed. My husband and I did this earlier this year and we took our families with us to the civil ceremony. You only need one witness but we took 12! We intend on renewing our vows next year in church but this year we did it throught the courts. Best wishes to the both of you.

We were married by a JP...easy, simple. he was the only one that had to sign the certificate.

Congratulations!
I never had dreams of a big wedding like some girls, so we had a civil ceremony and just had our parents with us at the courthouse. Then we spent all our energy and money on a big reception with a couple of hundred people! It was a BLAST and pretty much stress free!!!! |
