Does your hubby surprise you at times?
My youngest son is in our local Help Me Grow program. We were referred by the WIC office when our second child was old enough for a front facing car seat. So Help Me Grow has been a program we have participated in for the last 4 years. They kids "graduate" from Help Me Grow when they are 3 and ready to start pre-school.
Basically they come out once a month and give great tips and snack ideas to SAHM's and they do a craft with the kids and when they are newborns they do a home check at once week to make sure the baby is gaining weight and not jaundice. I think it is a nice program. Well our youngest son has some developmental delays. At one year he was only at the level of a six month old and wasn't even sitting up. We started physical and occupational therapy and HMG started coming once every two weeks to help continue the therapy here at home. We all work with him on physical skills and occupational and speech. He is now almost caught up to where he should be. He is 17 months old and does everything except walk, which will come soon because he is pulling himself up and walking around furniture and he walks if we hold his hands. And he is starting to balance himself well. Anyway, I started a new job and I work Mon-Fri 8am-4pm and I am not available for the HMG program anymore. So Friday I came home and my husband says, "I called ***** from Help Me Grow and I scheduled for her to come out on *****" I was a little suprised. I told him I have to work that day. His reply was, "It's ok, I am a SAHD now, and I told ***** that I will continue the visits now since you can't." I was totally shocked!! Any other time when HMG would come out my husband would take off outside and wander our 8 acres until our home visit was over. Then he would come back to the house and ask me how it went. NOW he has taken the initiative to complete the program with our youngest son! Ok, sorry the post got lengthy here, but I just wonder now, have your husbands ever done anything that caught you by surprise? Something POSITIVE that he wouldn't have done under normal circumstances? |

Great that your husband was willing to do this!!!
I sound so negative all the time when I talk about my husband and I really don't want you all to think he's awful because he can be really nice. But nothing he does surprises me anymore.....LOLOL After all this time...I pretty much know what he'll do and what he won't....

Wow! That is amazing that your hubby did that for you and your son! Did he quit his job to be a STHD??
Well, my hubby and I have been married a little over a year and he of course does things that surprise me and make me feel so special.

Well, no, he isn't a SAHD by choice. He pulled his back out on the job in April 2005 and after numerous doctor appointments and tests we found he has degenerative disk disease plus two herniations into his spinal cord. The disks affected are L3, L4, and L5 which are the lowest ones in your back. The herniations push against the sciatic nerve and sometimes his right leg goes out on him. He flipped over my rocking chair the first time it happened. Second time he was driving and had to use his left foot to stop the car. His doctor won't release him to return to work and the company he worked for turned him loose two weeks after this all happened. Now he is waiting to see another surgeon for a second opinion. The first surgeon only gave a 50% chance of being able to walk after surgery so he wouldn't operate on Ernie. I was a full time student. Financial aid just wasn't making it for us anymore so I withdrew from my classes and found a job. Once we get back on our feet and get bills paid then I will finish my schooling. For now, the job was necessity. |
