Quick question about name change..
Ok so you all know i recently got married in October.
Well I was just wondering.. Am i supposed to drop my last name and keep my middle name? for example.. name before marriage = Khristine "Middle Name" "Last Name"... name after marriage = Khristine "Last Name" "New Last Name"? because for some reason.. when i call my credit card companies, they change my name, but leave my middle name.. so i'm so confused!! someone help me! Your middle name stays. You can either drop your maiden name, or if you want it to be "Last Name-New Last Name" you can use both names as your last name, just hyphenated.

i definately do not want to hyphenate my last name.. lol that would just be waaay too long lol..
cause on my drivers license i dropped my middle name and my maiden last name is now my middle name.. so that means i just need to change my middle name right? so i made an appt to go to the DMV, but does that mean i have to do the whole thing over (picture and all, if i'm just changing the middle name lol).. |

I don't know if it's just a state thing or not, but in Texas, the DMV always uses your maiden name as your middle name. Everywhere else, banks, everywhere,I use my middle name that my parents gave me and have dropped the maiden name. My signature on my driver's license uses an A for a middle initial (A for Anne) even though my maiden name is on there as my middle name and it starts with an H. Hasn't caused a problem so far. I think the Social Security Administration uses your maiden name as your middle name also. I had all 4 names put on all my college documents and even my diploma has all 4 names.
My passport has Anne for a middle name. When I buy airplane tickets, I use Anne even though my DL has maiden name. They haven't questioned it yet, however last time I flew, just in case, since security was especially tight at the time, I took my passport with me, but did not need it.

see the funny thing is, my mom is the one that told me my maiden last name becomes my middle name because that's what she did..
but when i went to change my name on my drivers license and social security they had left my middle name.. and i was like oh no im going to use my old last name.. and all my bank and credit cards have me as keeping my middle name.. so im guessing here where i live they keep the middle name and jsut drop the last name. |

Well, it was easy for me...I never had a middle name so when I got married, my maiden name became my married name.
I had a friend (years ago) that got into a big fight with the DPS because she wanted her full name...first/middle/maiden and new last name. If I'm not mistaken, she won that fight. When I got married (the second time), they asked me if I wanted to have my maiden name as my middle name or my first married name as my middle name...I couldn't have both (not that I wanted to keep the 1st married name).

I am 99% positive that it is a matter of personal preference. My mother-in-law and I both live in Alabama and I dropped my middle named and kept my maiden name and my mother-in-law dropped her maiden name and kept her middle name. When you go to the DMV and Social Security office to change your name on your documents, you just show them your marriage certificate and tell them how you want your new name. Simple as that. I had to go through the whole name change a year ago and they told me I could do either.

I have never heard of dropping your middle name and keeping your maiden name! But it sounds like its pretty common? When I got married in June of 05 I dropped my maiden name and use my married name. When I went to get my drivers liscense and my social security card, they didnt even ask me if I wanted to keep my maiden name they just changed everything to Heather Lynn Everett. My name was Heather Lynn Bowers!

I am sure it is just whatever you want to do. Matter of personal preference.

I hadn't ever heard of keeping your maiden name as your middle name. I just changed my maiden last name to my husband's last name.

That's so funny how everyone does it differently. I thought it was strange to keep your middle name and drop your maiden name. I dropped my middle name and my maiden name became my new middle name and my hubby's last name is my new last name.
