I am married to an alcoholic so I can see on both sides of the fence..Ive been in Al-anon for 4 years now and its a struggle even though he has been sober for 13 months..I know what it is like to keep everyone out of my life...but luckily with al-anon I dont do that anymore..does your daughter attend al-anon too?

Judy, I'm so happy that your grandchildren are thrilled to have you in their life. Like you said...What a change!!!! I can't imagine the excitement that you are feeling right now!!! What a gift you've been given!!!!

How glorious! I love how these little girls can just open up and share their love. What a pleasure for you - an understatement, I know!

Sheryl - I'm praying for you next.

Thanks Judy - I hope my Grandson talks non-stop to me when he's old enough to "talk". LOL :D That must have been so wonderful. :p

Dear Dawn,

13 months is a long time! Congratulations to both of you! I loved Al-anon. You can't help but become a better person for it. I met the most wonderful people there.

I am sorry you're in this struggle, however, and am sending prayers for your serenity.

My daughter went a few times, years ago. It was weird - one of the women asked her not to come back because this woman's daughter was my daughter's neighbor. Nobody knew that she went to Al-anon and she didn't want Jessie to tell her. Isn't that awful! I think Jessie is also in heavy denial, or she would have found a better group after a while.

It was so precious. Isn't life strange? It can change in a moment!

Judy I am so happy for you!!!!!!!!!! Prayers do still get answered.:)

Hi Debbie,

Yes prayers do get answered. Everyone's prayers for you will be answered too. How do you feel? It's great to see you online!

I made my reservation for Wed. & Thurs. of Thanksgiving at an Inn near my daughter's house. We talked again this morning and she was troubled about me bringing the dogs (Her MIL is allergic, etc., etc.) She was going to try to set the dogs up in a room upstairs - whatever. I told her not to worry, I had already planned to go to a motel since G.L. is being treated for worms. We both agreed that it would be less stressful for me anyway.

Life is good!

This thread is just so heartwarming. Judy I am just so tickled for you. You are such a good friend and I knew our prayers for your reunion with your daughter would be answered. Just as life can be sniffed out in an instant, so can someone entering....just in an instant. I am so thrilled for you!!!

Judy, just wanted to share in the celebration, and tell you how very happy I am for you and this new, wonderful development in your life!!!! I could not imagine being estranged from a daughter who you know has huge health issues. Soooo glad that you are back in contact and are going to get to see them. I'm tearing up typing this. Life is good!!!! Prayers are with you.

Thanks guys,

The really good news is that she's feeling well for about a year now! It's like a miracle.

I have a reservation to go up on Wednesday and leave on Friday of Thanksgiving weekend. She had suggested that maybe I come on Tuesday since she's going to be so busy cooking, etc. on Wed. I guess I should, since she asked. Maybe I can just drive home Thursday night after dinner. I can leave at abut 8 PM and be home by midnight, with no traffic. I can't see leaving the dogs at the Inn again on Friday.

I also don't want to spend so many days there the first time. Three days is a lot to begin with! It's her and the kids - no problem. Then there's her husband, his Mom and her boyfriend, my ex, his brother - all a problem. I'm sure they don't like me, and the fact that I don't care as long as they shut up about it, won't win them over much.

I really really really hope your visit there goes so well Judy. Holiday gatherings can be pretty stressful and it seems there are always those who wanna suck the love right outta the room. I know YOU wont let this happen if anybody tries.

Just remember you are there because you, your daughter, and your grandkids want to hug, continue and build on your all's relationship, and just enjoy each other. Keep your head high and your confidence above any of those who try to smash it.

I know it's early to say this but truly enjoy your Thanksgiving!! Happy Thanksgiving!!!! :p
