As others have stated, follow you heart and leave things "open" to try new things. I initially entered college (many years ago) in the nursing field. After my first year of college (and taking basics before classes specifically for nursing), I decided that wasn't really what I wanted to do....so.....I went back the next year and selected Medical Records and after the first semester, still wasn't sure so I did not return to school (still kicking myself over that!!). I got a job as a customer service rep with an insurance company, moved to the greater New Orleans area after marriage and stayed in the insurance field there - worked myself up (in another company) to assistant district manager and held my agent's license to sell insurance. We moved back to where we live now and management jobs were hard to find in a smaller town so I took what I could get. I was back at a customer service rep for an insurance company but after having done the management position, I just couldn't "fit in" again at that level so I left and went to work as bookkeeper of a parts supply place here in town. After 2 years, it changed ownership and the new owner was cutting staff and he figured his accountant could do what I did so I was let go. It was like it was meant to be as 2 days later, I applied for a job, of all places, in the medical records department at our local hospital and got the job!! I worked hard, moved up in that department, transferred to another department and was offered a position heading an area they were starting up. And now I work for another hospital in our town as the coding supervisor - guess I should have stuck with that medical records decision way back when I was in college!!!
Best of luck to you! You will "know" when the right career choice for you comes along. My 16 year old has no clue what he wants to study in college while my 13 year old has been saying for 2 years he wants to be a forensic pathologist - and so far, he's not waivered from that decision.
