How far should one reach?

If your dream job came available and you had only minimal training and experience, how far is too far for you to reach?

Would you take a chance if you thought you might only have a 10% chance of getting so much as in interview?

I'd say go for it Tink. You'll never know unless you try. And I'm sure they would be SO lucky to have you!!

Dignity? Self respect?

Oh Marilyn, I know you're right, and normally I'm willing to just jump into things, but this time I am shy and a bit anxious about even hinting that I might consider myself capable of the job. It involves skill as well as experience, so I guess I'm afraid I'll come across like one of those people on the season opener of American Idol.

I'm so worked up over trying out for this job that I dont even want to say what it is... I'll let you know if I get up the nerve to go for it and get it.

Awww....Thanks Tink I know from reading about your last job that you have the ability to do whatever you set your mind to. You have a good work ethic and I think that any employer would be happy to have you work for them. The challenge is to believe in yourself and go for it!!!!

Tink - my vote is to go for it! You have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain!!! You don't know if you can do something if you don't at least try.

Let me give you a little background on me - several years back, when hubby and I decided to move back to where we are now, I gave up a job I had as an office manager/assistant to the district manager of an insurance company. I knew in relocating, a management position would be hard to come by - especially here and boy was I right! But I had to start somewhere, get my foot in the door, and I did just that. I started in an entry level position and worked my way up from there back into a supervisory position. For the past 2 1/2 years, I have been doing medical coding for a long term acute care hospital. I was approached over a month ago about going to one of the clinics as their manager - they knew my background, what I can do, etc. After much thought and prayers over it, I accepted the position and will be starting on the 2nd of April. BUT - I would not have been offered this job had I not taken the "leap" and applied for management positions in the past. Someone took a chance on me, gave me the opportunity, and I'm grateful for it.

Take the chance - someone out there is waiting for someone like you to give that chance to. Don't sell yourself short - you are way better than that Best of luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for the support ladies.
I just sent my resume for the job I want. I was very open in my cover letter about the fact that I have a lot of experience that I feel would help me in the position, yet have no formal education related to it.

I explained that I know my application is a stretch, but that I am willing to prove myself given the chance. So I hope...

If nothing comes of it, at least I will have tried.

Tink, I'm SO glad you gave it a shot! Even if you don't get the job, you will be happy knowing that you tried and you won't have regrets later.

I'm so proud of you!!!
