Dear Tink,
I just read this because I was away. I got the same news from my daughter 11 years ago. She was 24, a bit older, and was already living with the father who was an alcoholic, not stable, not a worker, etc. It took her 2 years to "get him" to marry her. I honestly didn't want her to - being a single parent is certainly not the end of the world. I also went into shock, but now, 11 years and 3 grandchildren later, with much chaos in between because of my SIL, things have turned around and I have learned, again, that God takes care of us all. I now have 3 beautiful grandchildren, the turmoil between my daughter and I seems to be over and my SIL, at this point, even seems to have turned around. Your Katie can still go to college if she chooses, and can live out her dreams. She just has to work around the fact that she has a child. With you as her Mom, I'm sure she'll get all the emotional support she'll need. When I got over the shock, I planned a baby shower for Jessie and made it into a happy thing. I figured I might as well - either way I looked at it, she was still pregnant. I'll never forget holding Mackenzie about 20 minutes after she was born. I have never seen anything as beautiful. It was like God had sent us an angel for whatever reason he had.
