It's strange Betsi. Gary's been taking Demadex for several years - only 10 mg per day, then his feet started swelling, so we upped it to 20 mg per day. Then he just had a terrible time with swelling and one day he took 80 of demadex to get the swelling down.
One night last week I found him sitting up in the chair in the middle of the night, could barely breathe. I gave him a breathing treatment, didn't help much. In the morning, I listened to his lungs with the stethscope, and bam! I could hear fluid in his lungs. So I called the doctor's office and we changed him to Lasix which is like demadex, but it works quicker. It took 160 mg

of Lasix to get the fluid off and now he's taking 60 in the morning and 60 in the evening to keep it off. We see the nurse tomorrow - but he is doing great and keeping his weight stable with the 120 mg per day of Lasix.
I don't know what it is - Gary had an echocardiogram just 3 weeks ago, and his heart seems stable, but something is up with this darned fluid. We try to watch his salt intake, and he could do better, but he doesn't eat a lot either.
It's very strange that they both are having trouble with it.
