Going to church today

Brandon and Kassidy are having their first confession at church today. This is one of the steps that lead up to their confirmations in June. They both have to speak at the altar.

Kassidy is made because Brandon has more words than she has. Maybe because he has better words than she has? Kass is very excited about the dress she is going to wear, and Brandon does not like his shirt. I just love this age and the things that they care about. I think they are just so cute! 7 1/2 and 8 1/2, and in second grade!

I cannot imagine what they have to confess! Maybe they are told what to say. I wondere if they get to go into the confessional. They are going to feel so important!

I was going to take everybody out for lunch afterwords, but Steve's mom and her boyfriend are here. Too expensive, and I can't ask them to split it with me.

I wonder if a gift is called for, other than the stuffed animal Kass wants, and the GI Joe toy that Brandon wants. I'll have to ask Jessie. I think this might be a big deal because Steve's mom came up, and bought Kass the dress for today.

Sounds interesting! I'm sure this must be something really special.

I just love those ages too Judy. They say such crafty things sometimes.

Have a good time Judy! Let us know how it goes.

I don't know too much about what they are going to do, but I do know you must be so proud of them. That age really is a hoot though...maybe not for them, but from observers....LOL. I know the kids on the bus say the darnest things and their priorities are so funny.

Have a great time with them Judy.

I don't know much about it either, but it sounds like the gifts are appropriate. Take a pic afterward so we can see them dressed up!

It was adorable! Another couple of children participated, and then Brandon and Kass went up and took turns reading. They read about examples of sins, like fighting with your brothers and sisters and being noisy in school. The priest, Father Joe, is a wonderful man. The service was very nice. He follows all of the traditions, but he really communicates with the members during the mass. He is down to earth, yet he takes the Catholic traditions very seriously.

I learned that confession is done because in order to really open up your heart to God, you must tell him all of your sins, are forgiven, and then you are cleansed, and can accept him in your life. I really like that, and I think the children understood it very well. Then, the little ones went in, one at a time, to the confessional. When they were all finished, Father Joe told us that they are so lovely in their innocence. He promised that all of their confessions were secret, and that he would never tell their parents, or anyone else.

He wants all the children to learn The Lord's Prayer by heart. We had cookies and juice, and then went home. I took my camera, but felt funny taking pictures in the church.

We all got dressed up, but the rest of the people there were in jeans, sweats, etc. Jessie felt out of place, especially because she does not want to be thought of as a hootie tootie city person. I could care less, but she wants to fit in. She is so sweet.

Don't you know I have already started looking on line for communion dresses for Kassidy? She loves glitz, and is going to love getting dressed up for this big event. The little girls dress up like brides. I will let you know why when I find out. I would like to buy them both a cross, but I may end up buying Kassidy her dress.

How sweet! I don't know anything about the Catholic church - so this is very interesting! I'm so glad you had a good time. I do understand about your daughter wanting to "fit in". It is important in a small town with kids in school/church, etc. We old guys don't have to think about that though,

Now I think I understand a little bit more. I thought as I was reading your first post that this was probably to do with the Catholic church but wasn't sure. I bet it was very special to watch your grandchildren reading their stories. How very sweet Judy

I too understand why Jessie feels she wants to fit in. It is very important to young people, espicially those with school age children. Next time maybe she'll wear jeans Glad all went well.

I think the crosses are a wonderful idea.

What a special day!! I'm sure that you were very proud of your grandchildren!!! Too bad that you didn't get any pictures, but you could have taken some posed pictures after it was over.
