My weekend with the girls!

On Friday evening, my brother called desperately needing someone to watch the two little girls for the weekend. They were hosting a birthday party for his friend after a day of golfing on Saturday, and the girls' grandparents were supposed to watch them but backed out at the last minute. I talked it over with Scott and said sure, as long as they drove them out, we'd take them for the weekend.

Now, BEFORE this, my cousin came out with her three brats on Friday night. I love my cousin but I honestly never want her kids at my house again. They weren't just bad, they were terrible, and nobody can control them. I know Scott was on the verge of exploding. They were jumping around, throwing tennis balls towards our new 50" tv, hitting and screaming "I hate you!" to my cousin and her boyfriend, pretending to smoke toothpicks like cigarettes... the little boy was jumping around and fell off the couch, slamming his head hard on the wood coffee table and then SCREAMING... the oldest girl (7) picked up a whole watermelon from the counter and demanded to have some (I said no, and put it down), and she promptly picked up wine glasses and swung them around her head! It was a total nightmare!

So when Adrianne and Morgann showed up Saturday morning, I knew it would be a breeze! I planned to get painting done this weekend, so I sat them down with a bowl of grapes and some cartoons and they were as happy as could be. During commercials they'd come talk to me. My favorite was Adrianne saying "Lindsey, guess what. Today is the best day EVER! I had donuts for breakfast and now I'm HERE!" and she also told me "This isn't even really like a house, it's like a princess castle!" They are just too adorable! They played outside a bit but really loved being able to watch cartoons. They don't do that much at home! But in the 2 hours they watched cartoons, I was able to paint baseboards and windows in the whole back of the house!

Scott was at a golf tournament all day and they had a big meal and stuff out there so he didn't get home until 8. I asked the girls if they wanted to play a trick on him, and they were all for it! I waited for the garage door to open and they came running and hid in the closet. Scott just threw his shoes down at the door and I told him to put them away! He opened the closet and they jumped out and scared him! Lol they could not stop laughing about it later!

They also brought their bathing suits for the hot tub, but unfortunately the hot tub is not working! So I told them our jetted bathtub is kind of the same thing, and they were just as happy in there! Later we took them upstairs and watched 101 Dalmations on the projector screen and ate munchies They went to bed and fell asleep immediately.

The next morning we woke up for church and had to drag the girls out of bed after they had been sleeping for 10.5 hours. They were SO good in church, way better than I expected. They sat quietly through the whole service! Then we took them and Layla (in her wheels!) to the school playground just a few blocks away. Not long after, my brother and their mom came and we all had lunch (barbequed deer smokies, fries, and fresh veggies!) and they went home.

I really missed having them around when they were gone! Those girls are really such little angels and SO well behaved. Scott and I really got a taste of how good parenting can make a life easier this weekend! Friday night we thought maybe we'll never have kids, but after spending time with Adrianne and Morgann, I want my own for sure I can't wait until they want to come out again for another sleepover in the "princess castle"

OH Lindsay! What a wonderful story. Kids can be so much fun and it sounds like you had a really good time with them and they with you! I'm so glad. Misbehaving kids can be a nightmare, as you well know!

Lindsay I have three boy's and I can tell you they are not alway's angels. Sometimes there the most well behave little boy's in the world and next thing you know they do unexpected things
When you decide to have kids be ready for both worlds. But trust me you might regret having them for a minute but that will all pass when they hug you and say mommy I Luv U.
Just don't wait to long

I know my cousin's kids are like that all the time... she never had an example of good parenting since her parents were usually out partying while her and her brothers were getting in trouble with the law. Her dad is now in jail, her brother had been in jail as a teen, and she started having kids at 17 (she was pregnant when her mom passed away) She has no control over those kids at all. I am kind of the only person in our family who even talks with her and she has really grown up as a person and adult, but she doesn't know HOW to raise kids. She has never reprimanded them for anything so they know they will get away with anything. They say empty threats and don't follow through. She just lets them go and go and go until they pass out from exhaustion. The kids will sleep in her bed every night because they scream otherwise. They get their way all the time because if they don't, they scream. That's just their life, constantly, every day. They are 10x worse in public.

I could not believe the difference in her oldest girl and my brother's oldest girl... they are only ONE year apart. Makena is like a mini diva teenager with the biggest attitude I've ever seen, and Adrianne is still just a kid with her Hello Kitty outfits and carrying teddy bears around. You would think they're 5 years apart!

Anyways, I know my parents did a good job of raising me, and my brother and his girlfriend are doing a great job of raising those little girls, so I know we have some good examples around when we start a family

Believe me, I don't want to wait too long! With so many young families around us and my friends all getting married and having kids, I keep asking Scott why he needs to keep waiting to buy me a ring lol! His friends are still all college students - some seem like life-long students!- who care WAY more about computer games and staying out late than settling down. He doesn't want to lose them so he's hanging on to his old lifestyle as long as possible I guess His best friend even told him he's changed and he doesn't know him anymore, which I thought was really rude He wasn't happy at all that we bought this house together, and he made it a point to say I should let Scott away for a weekend to visit him in Vancouver... when we had thought we could go visit him together since I've never been there Anyways, I know the time will come so I'll just be patient!

I know how you feel Lindsey. My EX best friend didn't want me to go to his wedding in Vietnam so they could party without me. Instead of sticking up for me he sneaked away. I was so furious.
Back to the subject, I still think you two are young and need to enjoy life. And a guy who has a kid in him will be a great dad. You wait and see.

I have no doubt in my mind that Scott will be a great dad No matter where we are, he sees a kid and he starts smiling and waving at them lol! He just loves kids.

Scott and I have talked a lot about how his life has changed and I keep telling him he doesn't HAVE to leave his friends behind, he didn't HAVE to move in with me, or buy this house, or anything, and he just tells me he's happy and he loves me, and sometimes his friends just don't understand that. I think it's just hard for him to see his best friend not supporting him in being happy. A part of me thinks maybe his friend is jealous that he doesn't have the same in his life.

I know I'm still young and I still love to travel and have nice things and all that stuff, but I just really yearn to have more in my life. I want to be a wife and I want to be a mom. I have the great guy, a good career, a beautiful house... I just want the next step
