Christmas Gifts you received as a Child
Did you receive a gift for Christmas that you really, really hoped that you would get? Something that all you could do was dream about it?
On the other hand, were there gifts that you really, really wanted but didn't receive? Do you still wish that you would have gotten it? I remember that as a first grader I saw my first Barbie doll (back in about 1963) and that was all I could think about.....having a Barbie. Sure enough I got her! She was very loved and well played with. I've never grown up.......I still have her!!! One year a girl at school wore a pair of red sparkly boots with black fur trim on them. You know, the kind that only a little girl could fall in love with. I wore those boots out. I just loved them. I always wanted a Chatty Cathy doll, but Mom said that they wouldn't work for very long so I never got one. I still think about buying one on e-Bay, but don't know what I would do with her. How about you? Come on and share!!!!

Don't remember the year, probably before 1963 because that would put me at 8 years old and I know I was younger. Anyway...I already had my Barbie (still do), but I wanted the Barbie house. It was made of cardboard and folded into a suitcase type thing and so big. It didn't come in time for Christmas so mom gave me a card with a picture of it inside. I was so excited!!!
I still have my Chatty Cathy doll too, and my bride doll.

Oh my goodness! My grandmother has a Catty Cathy doll in her doll cabinet. And, do you have the ORIGINAL Barbie Doll? The one in the black & white striped swim suit? If you do, it is worth $25,000!!!!!

I remember when I was young, I wanted a CD stereo system SOOOO badly for my room. My dad told me that he didn't think Sant was going to bring it to me and I was sooooo sad! I remember praying to God Christmas Eve night that I would get it. I ended up getting it and I was the happiest girl EVER!!!!!!!
One thing that I always wanted that I never got was those Keds slip-on tennis shoes, the ones that didn't have laces. My friend I went to school with always wore them to school and I would always BEG her to trade shoes with me. I liked the slip-ons because I felt like a Cinderella...you know, she had the glass slipper slipped on her foot by the Prince? Cheesy, I know, but hey, I was like 5 or 6. Anyway, I never got a pair of slip-on keds because my mom said my foot was too narrow and they wouldn't stay on my feet. I'm still sad about it.

I also have Midge, Skipper, and Scooter, all in great shape!! I didn't have any little sisters to play with my dolls and ruin them. That's cool that your grandmother still has her Chatty Cathy doll!!

What a great "memory lane" thread!!
Back for my 7th birthday, I fell in love with Happenin Hair Francie, Barbie's cousin. I wanted her so bad! Well, lo and behold, I got her - and I STILL have her to this day I no longer have her hair pieces or her original dress/shoes but have thought about trying to get them off ebay. For Christmas one year (can't remember the year, '72 maybe or '73) all I asked for was the Movin Grovin Crissy doll - yep - got her too and still have her! She's in her original dress (shoes long gone) and sitting on a shelf in my room. I still have my Malibu Barbie, Malibu Ken, Mod Hair Ken, and some clothes and shoes. I had just about everything Barbie you could imagine and when we moved from Florida to Mississippi back in '78, we gave a lot of our barbie stuff to some kids in our church who didn't really have a whole lot - and there was an original barbie in there!!

The gift I wanted most of all when I was small was a Chatty Cathy doll, and I got one. Her voice did stop working, but it was a few years later. I don't have her any more. After I left home, my mother packed up most of my dolls and put them out in the garage. We lived on a farm, and the garage was more like a barn, and the mice got to my dolls.
This is a great thread. Brings back memories.
