How old is too old???
I have two girls, the oldest one is almost 11 and the youngest one will turn 8 next month. We are a very close family and on saturday mornings the girls love to get in bed with me and my hubby and snuggle and watch cartoons (the cats and dogs get their snuggles in too ) and when my husband is offshore/deployed they sleep in bed with me every night. They begged and begged for their own bunkbed so they wouldn't have to sleep together in the same bed but when hubby is home they go to bed in seperate beds but they always end up snuggling together in the same bed. so my ? is how old is too old for them to be sleeping with me and each other. they have a very strong sister bond and they just love to sleep in bed with me and for some reason they are always wanting to wear my nightgowns to bed....too funny! Just wondering what ya'lls opinion is on this. thanks

That is fine, my kids use to jump into bed with me and snuggle up all the time they were about that age 11 or maybe a little older I forget...lol , and I miss those days...lol When your hubby is away there is nothing wrong with them sleeping with you. I hear in Europe that is a custom where they share the room to be close. They did surveys that showed the children and parents bonded better, here in the US its shun. Believe me this to shall pass so let them continue they do out grow it trust me. So enjoy it!!! |

My son is 15 and although he never sleeps with us or me anymore....he will come in and lay down with me once in a while and we share the most wonderful, personal conversations. I know this will pass someday too, but I always enjoy that special time together. The dogs will jump up in bed and always give us entertainment.
My son and I are very close and can talk about anything and everything. I've always told him nothing is off limits. He's a great young man and I'm very proud of him.

hey Janet....thanks and am so glad that you still get your snuggle time....i wouldn't take a million $$$ for it, i would never give that up!!! i've just heard some people say that it makes them too dependent yada yada yada....i don't think there is anything wrong with being close with your family as a matter of fact when i go over to visit my mom we all sleep together in the bed....me, my girls, and my dogs plus my mom and her dog.....talk about crowded but i would never give it up!!!! obtw they saved my tree!!! so happy, they cut down all the branches except one and cut the tree practically in half but hopefully they said it will put out some new branches and take off come springtime!!!

I think that as long as your hubby is away, then there shouldn't be an age cutt-off. I say, enjoy it while it lasts!!!!!!! Cherish those moments. But, when your hubby is home, don't let them sleeping with you interfere with the intimate times you have with your hubby. Morning cartoon watching, I see nothing wrong with that, either!!!!!

My son does the same, and really... i cherish those moments, because i know that one day it will be over, and i will miss that. Him and i are very close, we talk about everything and anything, we even go shopping together and have a blast, have lunch somewhere and just laugh till we silly. He does manly things with my husband, they go fishing, ride cars and go to gym together.

They need that balance between the two parents whether the parents are together or not.

Some of the best memories of my life were when I was a child and Daddy worked the midnight shift at the mill. When me or my sisters got scared, we ran down the hall and climbed in bed with Mama. On Sunday mornings we all climbed in bed with Mama and Daddy and wrestled until time to get ready for Sunday school.
My boys thought nothing of coming into my room and climbing in bed with me (I was a single parent for 10 years) if they got scared. I don't see anything wrong with it. My boys knew themselves when they were too old to climb in bed with me. But it sure was nice when they were still young enough to. |

That brought back a memory for me too. I remember on Sunday mornings, Dad would still be in bed and call out..."Janet Darlene and her sewing machine" (I know corny, but not much else rythms..LOL) and then he would yell for my brother..."Bradley Eugene and his freckle machine" (can you guess why he was called that?) and then Brad and I would go jump in bed with Daddy and get tickled and loved on. It was so much fun.
Okay, that made the tears fall, he's been gone now since 1973 and I miss him so much still!

I agree with the others. Lifes too short to turn down any cuddle time with your children. Enjoy it while they're willing and able. They'll outgrow that far too soon.
I still get hugs every time I see my oldest and she's almost 33! I consider myself blessed that she's so affectionate toward me. My 20 yr old will occassionally give me a hug, but my 18 yr old has a hard time getting that close anymore and she used to be my cuddlebug! So take it while it's offered... you never know what life's gonna throw at you, and those cuddle sessions are just plain good for the soul!

I agree with the consensus here. They never get too old. Enjoy every minute!!! Time goes by too fast.

My daughter is turning 18 this month...She has always been a snuggle bunny!!! When My hubby (Mike) was away she always slept with me... This lasted until about 16 or so. Once she started driving she became more independant and now she sticks with hugs!!! I wouldn't put an age on this... I think it's great you all are so close!
She still wants to have movie night and shopping days so I didn't lose her altogether!!!!
